Has anyone ever seen or heard of a doberman lurcher ? if not can anyone give me a good reason not to try using this breed? apparently they are one of the top five smartest dog breeds and their shape obviousally lends itself to the running dog trend.

i seen one about ten years ago it was doby X greyhound it was very strong looking but that was the only one iv seen

My old mate 'Tony Brown'.from the Chesterfield area had this cross 20 odd years back, and he tells me it was the bees knees

A few years back, when I was asked to use Basil for a litter, people mentioned to me that a doberman cross might prove useful. Apparently there had been some very handy Doby crosses which were working in the highlands of Scotland .

I can see that this is quite an old topic but we have a doberman lurcher. We got him two years ago from a rescue centre and he is a beauty and he IS very intelligent! :) :)

The doberman is intelligent but I question whether it is an ideal cross for a large lurcher. Unfortunately the doberman is not as athletic or as robust as certain other similar type breeds Consequently I would recommend a ridgeback or a beauceron as preferable to produce the same type of lurcher.

I think I have a Doberman lurcher. We bought him in Ghana as a Doberman, but he was not papered (such things don't exist in Ghana) and as he's grown up he has developed into a much more lightweight dog than a Doberman. He's very tall, with fantastic speed and agility and intelligent, did his 6 months in quarantine without a hint of complaint, and is complimented at length when we're at the park, although he is fussy beyond belief with food. Something that works one day is totally off limits a week later, he won't touch dog food and seems happier to starve himself than touch kibble.

Photo blog of him here www.justthedogalex.tumblr.com

He's un-neutered if anyone was interested in breeding (not for money. I'd just love another one of him because he is an utterly fantastic dog)

what you have there does lok like a strong and athletic dog as Dobermans should be but often aren't. What its precise breding is is difficult to say. MY point about dobermans was a general one and therefore doesn't apply to all examples of the breed let alone yours which may well have a dose of someething else in its breeding.

Yep, definitely don't think he's a full Doberman. (= a good thing as it makes his insurance so much cheaper...)
