I was just wondering if anyone elses dogs scream the "help I'm being murdered right now!!" scream? Or is it just my odd pair?

You know the one - where accidently step on their toe (or in Max's case just brushing against his nails!) or something like that.... and they SCREEEEAAAAM the house down!

Tiny goes one step further, if he sees a dog he wants to play with and can't he screams, if a plastic bag flutters past he jumps up and down and screams, etc!

So is it just us, or do you have that too?

Hi Claire

 It's apparently a greyhound thing I also go on greyhound fun and asked the same question myself they call it the greyhound death scream William does it too .They do it at the slightest excuse

Helen

Its definately a greyhound thing.... the biggest greyhound i have at home is 34kg, and is the biggest baby........... i get nail clippers out, he screams as though your killing him, one of the others accidently stands on his feet he screams, go to bath him he screams, touch his ears he screams ( they have been checked but nothing is wrong... hes just a big baby!)....

I love him dearly but when he screams it seems to go on & on... very high pitched as well!

I know exactly what you mean - it feels like your eardrums are going to burst.

I think iggies are the same, they scream loads too. :- "

Half the time I don't even know what they're screaming for, it's soooo embarrassing (and really quite funny) when you walk down he road and Tiny starts up his scream "plastic bag, plastic bag, help, help!!"

BUT when Max (who is a big screamer) fell out of the car at the vet (he was getting out and forgot to put his legs down), he really hurt himself - cuts and bruises and bashed shoulder, and he never uttered a sound! :huggles: Bless him!!

Oh i can vouch for that alright (w00t)

But they scream when you go out, when you come back in, when they know you are preparing their food. For such little people boy do they make a noise BUT the worst, god forbid................................................................ if they break a leg, then you really know what screaming is

Freddie does the scream thing  but fortunately it doesn't go on for very long. Claire doesn't do it at all, but then she's very butch and tough!! :- "

Thats just how William is claw cutters ears bath he's a big baby you only have to tell him of sometimes the neighbours must thing we're killing him sometimes

:)) Phew, I thought the wailing thing only happened here ! Flora will scream the house down on occassion and I used to think people passing by would think I was slitting her throat!

Toe nail cutting is acceptable in her book and passes without a murmer, as does any veterinary attention. Should however, she accidentally lie on one of her feet awkwardly, or, heaven forbid, become uncovered by her duvet, she will scream for England, usually only stopping when one of us has been and helped her out of the perilous situation!

Oh yes! The blanket uncovering is a bad one! Especially in the middle of the night - I thought Tiny was dying when he did that! - We solved that, now he sleeps on the bed!! :b

Max is terrible for screaming if he gets his foot even remotely snagged on anything! :sweating:

I'd love to have an iggy! Tiny is way too bouncy for one at the mo....

Sounds like you have first hand experience of broken legs! I think that would make me feel reeeeallllly sick!

There's two screamers at our house. I have one that does it if you inflict some indignity on his person ie, touch his feet, scruff his ear, but that has gotten better over time. The other has the let me play NOW scream, it's awful. He uses it when another dog is playing and he wants to join in.

Then there's the "timmy fell down the well" yap. One of mine uses that one to get let back in the house. Sounds as though he's alerting the neighbourhood to some horrible catstrophe.

Thank goodness there's three sounds for three dogs, I couldn't stand it all in one noisy package!

I would LOVE to hear these screaming greys, its hard to imagine (w00t)

:)) You just wait till the more clement weather Olivia ...........................you will be sitting at home on a balmy summers evening, large jug of Pimms to hand, filmy chiffon type floral dress on, your girls sleeping in the shade after a days niceness near a river/pool/lake etc etc etc. :sweating:

Your windows will be open to allow the light breeze to cool your collective tanning skins, when all of a sudden, yelps of a blood curdling nature will fill the air, hairs will stand on the backs of necks, thoughts of gruesome massacres being committed, pushing whimsical thoughts from your minds.

You will all visibly pale, shocked to the core, fearful of what has befallen a relatively local canine, until you realise the end is not nigh, but Flora has simply decided the chenille cushion on which she rests her head has one crease too many. ;)

... and your stomach drops through the floor and you shake, you think the world is going to end .......... but no, it's just the water in the water bowl is half a degree too warm / there is a leaf that needs torturing / the blanket is covering a paw etc!! (w00t)

And then ..... the other one joins in - just to make sure no one is missing out!!

(You really don't want to hear it!!  )

Try this predicament ...

... 7am next village from home ... 4 leaded dogs ... one Squirrel that decides to merrily hop along 5 yards infront of said dogs ...

:- "

Only consolation for you there Elise is that you dont have Fudge and Treacle in that four :D lol

No but it's Treacle that Blaze learnt the screaming off  . Stood at the side of Asfordby track copycatting her as a pup  .

LOL Sadie, it must be a gillette thing because Dobs screams and I think his brothers still do too. I remember ringing Vicky asking her about this because everytime he saw me he'd scream at me and I thought he might of been injured :teehee:

Yep, in nearly 16 years of having IGs i have had my share & each time it is just as horrible BUT thankfully we have been clear of this for many years now since changing our breeding programme drastically & hope to remain so, although with Igs you can never foresee a stupid accident

Oh this thread has made me laugh so much!

I just have 2 whippets, one of them goes in for a sort of panicked noise (accompanied by a perturbed expression) when the other has a toy, which the noisy one has decided he now wants! both of them are usually quiet ... oh, yes, and whenever the doorbell rings, that sets off a panicked screaming noise from both of them, which luckily doesn't last too long.
