Please does anyone have any suggestions? I have always given my dogs vetbed to sleep on (or else a thicker type of bedding which my 2 year old whippet boy loves!).

However my youngster (whippet boy, 12 months old) merely devotes himself to ripping and shredding his vetbed. I don't mind the cost of replacement, but I do mind the thought that he may swallow the shredded vetbed (w00t) ... has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what bedding have you given instead of vetbed please?

Thanks!

I have one of those too!!! A 12month old bedding shredder  I wonder if they might be brothers?? After wasting loads of money on fancy beds they now sleep in their crate with piles of old towels and blankets and cheap fleeces from ikea. He loves the fact that he can chew to their hearts content - mind you, funnily enough he doesn't seem that bothered about chewing things he's allowed to

Don't make the same mistake as me and buy one of those bean bag beds - CARNAGE

Could very well be ... or brothers under the skin, at any rate!! :D

Thanks for the reply - think I will do that, just give him old towels to sleep on. A friend says she gave her dog an old duvet cover and he couldn't chew that, however her old duvet cover mustn't have been as cheap and thin as the one I gave mine :b - he's chewed holes in it and managed to stick his head through the hole before I took that away from him too  little monkey.

Thanks! Gill

Zeb sleeps in his bed with my little girls old duvet, my sons old duvet (they get changed twice a year because of their Astama) and a blanket from Argos. He was never given a bed before and we cant get him out of his now.(not even to get onto the sofa) :- "

Im not sure what to suggest. Vetbed is the only bed Chloe can have that she doesn't pull to pieces. She has only been destructive when it comes to her bed, nothing else. However, she is fine with vetbed. Give her a beanbag or stuffed bed and it looks like a snow storm has hit the room! We went through a period of just giving her towels to lie on, she nipped holes in them too though! Let us know if you find a solution

I've always bought inexpensive curtain interlining from Dunelm Mill (or any haberdasherie I suppose) as it's soft, warm & washable and virtually indestructable, and only costs around £2 per metre. I put layers of it on top of old towels, on top of their main big bed cushion. You can cut it to any size bits that you need, and the nice thing is it seems to get softer and fluffier the more you wash it :) . William's got a little corner that he sucks like a human baby  (it's gross and grubby :p )

Thanks for those suggestions everyone.

With our 12-month old whippy, it seems to be soft fluffy fabric (like vetbed) that he finds easy to rip up. He had old towels last night and altho he's still chewed bits off, it will have taken him a lot longer to do! When he was shredding vetbed, he used to look like he was lying in a nest :D when I came down to him in the morning.

I think I need to find some really close-woven strong cotton type material for him to lie on, anything with a slightly looser weave and his teeth are flying in and out of the fabric like knives!

I think he'll stop chewing in the end ... say, when he's about 9 or 10 years old ... bless 'im.

I've got another idea which I had forgotten about. Don't know if your much of a seamstress but I once bought some really stretchy lycra (the sort what you make sports wear out of) and made a bag out of it. Then I filled it with the beans from the old bean bag (which Lenny destroyed!!!)and made a cover for it out of really strong cordrouy(sp).

He never managed to get his teeth into that at all but then Molly puked on it, so I took the cover off to wash and never got round to putting it back on!!! Needless to say, the inner bag got filthy and I ended up chucking it, BUT he could never manage to chew a hole in it :D

Don't know if any of that made sense but I hope it did. Perhaps you could make a bed and fill it with all the shredded vetbed

I buy a good quaility single sized duvet and then buy single duvet covers from charity shops! The covers only cost about £1.49 per time and are really like brand new (the dogs and I both like the childrens designs best!). This is a cheap alternative to dog bedding as you can get a load of extra covers in for when you wash them etc. The actual duvets I buy from somewhere like T J Hughes who have fab quality duvets for £15 (RRP £45).

I buy blankets from charity shops, approx £1.50 a go but I also have a Barka Parka bean bag which is pretty indestructable
