My dog whines in the car
Common enough problem but why does he always whine when going somewhere but never when coming back
Even when the return journey is to a different place
Incidentally he is always very happy to get in the car but starts whining almost immediately

I imagine he's just excited about where you're going, and the whining is the equivalent of 'Are we nearly there yet?' On the way back he'll be more tired, and may assume you're going home even if you're not.

How to stop the whining.... I have no idea, unfortunately!

If you find out let me know. George has been out in the car almost every day for 6 years and he does exactly the same. Whines all the way there not on the way back ... Some days hes more talkative than others. He does stop if I touch him but thats not practical for every journey.

It would be a very long and slow process but you could try driving round the block, and finishing at home - hundreds of times. So, going out in the car doesn't result in anything exciting.

We have this with our dog, one of us now (when time allows or we remember) walks her for 20 mins just before she gets in the car. In our mind she now not so excited to be going 'out' as she's just been
