So my dog is a cavalier king charles spaniel and is 9 years old and i have noticed that he is itching to the point he cant lie down,he is panting alot and is licking alot aswell we put flea treatment on him earlier on but im starting to think that isnt the case ?

If your dog's itching and panting started after the flea treatment was applied it may be having an allergic reaction to the treatment. If you think this is possible you need to get to the vet now.

Which flea treatment did you use?

Many flea treatments have become ineffective due to the fleas developing resistance. Vets keep on top of this and are the best ones to advise on which is, currently, effective. All the pet shop ones are useless.

Some flea treatments cause a reaction just on their own. My dog has a bad reaction to Advocate (now called Prinovox). You also have to be very careful not to apply a flea treatment soon after a previous one. Your vet is the best placed to advise on this.

Fleas live in the environment and just feed on any passing animal. We should, therefore, treat the environment as well as the dog. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum and spray everywhere else with Indorex house spray to kill the eggs and emerging larvae.

Of course, your dog could be itching for other reasons. An allergic reaction to something in the environment perhaps? Lots of dogs have allergies. Anything from house dust mites, to grasses and pollens can cause reactions.
