My wife bought a German shepherd for her granddaughter to thinking it would be good for her mental health. At the time she was living with her mother she is 20 years old by the way. She hardly ever took it out for a walk wouldn't clean up its poo from the garden and the dog subsequently started to chew up the house. We would have the dog for two or three days at a time for the first few weeks and as my wife walked him every day a couple of times a day we had no problems with him. Four weeks ago he came to stay with us after he chewed up there kitchen and the granddaughter moved out to crash round mates. Now she's been given a flat by the council but despite being on benefits having worked all of three months since she left school. She has now decided she wants the dog back she wil not walk him when hungover or on a comedown from the drugs she's done the previous night. And despite the fact when she lived round her mum's rent free she still spent all her benefits in about a week so she couldn't afford dog food. Which my wife would pay for. Where do we stand legally as we've both agreed that the dog will be better off with us?

I'm sorry you're in this situation - you must worry so much about your grandaughter as well as the dog. I don't know the legal ins and outs of ownership - other members may know more - but I have seen this dog law specialist recommended in the past: Dog Legal Specialists & Solicitors | Dog Law I hope that helps.

I agree - this is a legal matter and you need a specialist.

As above. But look out any paperwork that shows that you paid for the dog, for its food and care etc. to support your case. Microchip registration isn't proof of ownership but if that's in your name, it can't hurt.
