Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help me. Our 7 month old cavalier King Charles spaniel is house trained, she goes to the loo outside all the time now and we reward her whenever she does with praise and a treat. However, twice now, once in May and once yesterday, she has peed in the house. Both times it’s happened it’s been when we have sat down to have dinner. Also, most strangely to us, both times it’s been when the back door has been open and she had access to the garden to pop out and pee, which she does all the time on her own accord. We have no idea what has caused this both times. The house has been very calm and both myself and my partner were with her both times so there was nothing to feel anxious about. Any help or ideas would be great!

If she continues to do it, it might be worth collecting a sample to rule out a UTI.

But a lot of dogs do regress around that time, often because we take our eye off the ball, thinking we have cracked the house training and in fact they aren't quite there. So we are a little less vigilant, maybe not taking them out quite as regularly as we ought to. So, the advice is to go back to taking her out on a schedule. Keep her bladder empty.

And an open door isn't as helpful as you would think - it actually blurs the distinction between inside and outside.

Hi, maybe it's a stress? try give her calming chews. If it doesn't help go to vet

Has she had a season yet? This happens with a few females just before their first season, but not usually after that.

First time in May was before she was spayed. Yesterday was after she’s been spayed.
