Has anyone seen this story, I just came across it thought I would post it. This is an amazing job the vets have done but I have mixed feelings, considering her injuries it is a very long drawn out process for her, that said though I do also find it amazing that they can do such things. Could you imagine the vet bill though

Amazing , hope she was insured

It's difficult to know without knowing the dog and what the long term outcome would be.

At 3yrs old it's relatively a youngster (depends on the cross mind) so 5 weeks could be nothing in relation to the dogs lifetime per se. If the dog was as mad as a box of frogs and had to be restricted then it would be a bigger issue than if it was a laid back dog that was fairly tolerant.

The end result and what quality of life the dog will have is imperative and there's always the issue that injuries do tend to come back and haunt the elderly dog. I would hope the vets were confident about the long term prognosis and this isn't a 'guinea pig' situation which can happen -especially in teaching hospitals but like I said without knowing the whole situation we can't really comment.

There's a world leading greyhound vet currently practising in Ireland, he has openly stated that all fractures can be repaired and whilst it's reassuring that we have the ability to do this, ultimately it becomes an individual decision on whether it's the right thing to do or not.

I have to agree with jacs all the treetmnet Indy had to have and the time she had to be imobile or inplaster she coped with fine cos shes so layed back and aslong as she was with us didnt bother about anything. But say scarlet or indys sister ruby would never havce coped with the same condtion they would have coped been relay stressed with it. so there lots of thing to think about

I saw the story about Ruby in The Mail and I have to say I had mixed feelings. Great that they feel they have 'rebuilt' her, fantastic if she is the sort of laid back dog that could cope with that sort of recovery period and the restrictions imposed. I have to put my hand on my heart and say that I'm not sure my dog would've coped and therefore I'm not sure I could have put him through that sort of extensive surgery. We all do what we feel is right for our dogs at the time I suppose.... Best of luck to her. :luck:
