My little Monty will soon be old enough to go out so I thought that I'd look around to see what's out there in the way of training classes.

Inspired by Zephyr's fantastic achievement  with the Good Citizen Dog Scheme run by the Kennel Club I sent them an email asking for info on local clubs

They sent me an email back with loads of clubs on, but I don't understand what some of it means

for example, there is a BAGSD in my area, and its a Branch

there is Dog Training Club, and its a Registered Club

thre is a K9 Training School, and it is Listed Status

there's also one that is Local Authority

I could phone them all and ask, but thought I'd ask you lot first cos you are all so clever :- "

Can anyone recommend a good place to start when looking at training classes, I'm in Hertfordshire

thanks!

I would guess BAGSD is 'British Association for German Shepherd Dogs'. Not sure what the other things mean.

Personally I would go for a trainer who is an APDT member, as they are likely to use modern reward-based training methods. There is a list of trainers by region here

APDT

There is also some good general advice on that site on how to choose a good training class.

thanks  very useful link
