I'm going to have to get some new wellies for the winter. My trusty green ones from the farmers market just don't give enough foot support for the 5-8 miles a day walking I'm doing and I had problems with the nerves in my feet last spring which have gone since the weather improved enough to switch back to my proper walking boots.

I cannot believe the prices though! Aigle are ridiculous as are Hunters. I am looking at Muckboots but before I pay out nearly £80 for a pair of wellies I'd like some tried and tested opinions please!

Hunters have gone downhill in recent years, since they moved production to China I believe.

I was going to suggest Aigles as OH likes his and they've lasted really well. Personally, I think every penny spent on comfortable footwear is worth it, particularly if you have foot or other physical issues. And of course boots that are twice as expensive make economic sense if they last twice as long. I've heard that Hunters don't last well nowadays - if you like I can ask OH how long he's had his Aigles for later, though he does usually only walk at weekends.

I can't wear any wellies or long boots comfortably over any distance - I need something that laces firmly. I wear some Merrell trainer-type walking boots when it's dry (they're supposed to be waterproof but they're hopeless in damp grass) and leather walking boots the rest of the time. I used to wear gaiters to stop my jeans getting muddy but then I got lazy and just wore muddy jeans for a few days. I adore my Scarpa walking boots.

Of course, if you need to wade through puddles and streams that would come over walking boots that's no use to you at all.....

I love my yard boots (not mentioning brand names) which are warm, waterproof and look good.

I’ve had a pair of Aigle wellies for over 7 years now ! Used for mucking out, dog walking etc on a daily basis , they’ve been brilliant. Had Hunters when they were good but not anymore as they started to leak after a few months so gave up on them.

I do sadly. The water collects at the bottom of the lane and it was up to my calves at one point last winter and when mixed with cow slurry it's just lovely. I have leather walking boots but they don't come up high enough for the winter water levels. I could use gaiters but smelly mud is pretty gross and they'd need washing each time.

Please do! That's the sort of info I need!

I was hoping everyone would say the Aigles are over hyped! I really don't mind paying for proper footwear - I could have had two pairs of Aigles for the price of my walking boots (eek) but I have a blind spot when it comes to wellies.

Ok, I coveted Dubarry; but similar Kanyon boots are 1/4 of the price. Honestly - if Kanyon last me 4 years at £130 I am ok with that.

Le Chameau ,, They are expensive , they are the best thing you will put on your feet, I’ve had mine for years, you will find many farmers wear them as they will be in wellies all day long

When I used to manage a riding centre I had these green wellies that I bought from sports direct for £7. They lasted literally forever.

Maybe some sort of Dubarry boot. You can get similar boots in other makes that are as good like Dublin River boots. I gave mine to my sister when I moved as she still rides and I didn't have a dog at the time.
