Hi all,

A little back story my puppy is nearly 9 months old and is a yorkshire terrier cross cavalier king charles spaniel, and has been very poorly since day one,

Having been backwards and forwards from the vets having tests after tests we ruled out pancreatitis and so on, however we found out shes allegic to beef, buffalo and milk, but also anything made from a cow.

we have tried butternut box, years, tails and forthglade food as well as others and all have resulted in sickness and diarreoha, but a massive concern is she is very skinny and we cant get weight on her.

vets have treated me and skye horrily so in the process of changing vets but am reaching out to see if anyone else has this problem and wether you have advice,

she was sick 10 times today from haveing a chew and she either vomint or has diarreah about 4-5 times a week so im very concerned as our other puppy who is younger does not do this.

shes my world and i nearly lost her so very scared

many thanks

Ellen and skye

Poor girl, she must be feeling rotten.

Changing foods frequently or suddenly isn't recommended, but if she is so unwell sometimes the risk of a sudden change is worth it.

Fish is often tolerated by dogs with sensitive tummies, perhaps a fish based food might help?

Would she eat some plain white fish with rice just to try to get something to stay down for now?

I agree with Joanne - I would cut back her diet to a single protein source and see how she goes on that. Don't worry too much about nutrition for now - the important thing is finding out what food she can tolerate. Cut out all treats and extras that contain anything else - you can use bits of whatever her main meals are for treats.

But most importantly, good luck with finding a vet who can help you work out what is going on and what she can eat.

The poor thing and poor you, how distressing for you both. Also wishing you luck with a vet change, fingers crossed they will be more helpful. Diet wise, I'm another fan of plain white fish as Joanne suggested above, but I'd be inclined to use plain boiled potatoes with it maybe, rather than rice. It might be a bit easier and gentler to digest, I'd also feed her little and often and see how that sits with her, giving each small meal time to settle if it will. Really hope you get some answers soon for your girl.

We had similar problems with Murphy that first year of constant diarrhoea and trips to the vet end of it who wanted to try us on hypoallergenic food although I have to admit he was very good and when Murphy refused to eat it I called them and they said return the bag we will refund your money.

Then we started on raw food and we were very lucky, we tried the single protein , the first single protein we tried was beef and we found out that our puppy was also allergic to anything made with a cow.

Our ' pup' is now eight years old and thriving on a raw food diet as long as we exclude everything to do with beef.
It will take time and you have to be patient but once you find the right food your dog will go from strength to strength.
