My girls enjoy everything I make them (which isn't unusual considering they eat anything!) even though I don't make them an awful lot. They love melted doggy safe chocolate frozen into ice lollies and frozen peanut butter and vanilla yoghurt cakes aswell as the healthier stuff. All you need to do is put a big dollop of pink coloured peanut butter on a heart shaped biscuit and they'll love you forever. What are your dog's favourite home-made biscuits/cakes? Any recipes you'd like to share?

I don't really bake for mine as they are not big treat eaters but the other day my husband was going to throw a nearly empty peanut butter jar away . I pinched it and William and Button had great fun trying to get the peanut butter out of the bottom I was holding it for them. They both had peanut butter all over their faces

Mine all love home made goodies. Penny goes to training classes and we are always advised to have a high value treat available if needed so I bake the dogs a cake every week, liver cake or pilchard cake ar their favourite sardine cake. Penny's attention span and her willingness to return when called have improved greatly since I started using the home bakes. :- "

gypsy loves my homemade liver and garlic cake

Ruby's the same. She's a foodaholic! She only comes back if there is a handful of sausages or biscuit treats on hand :- "

Liver and tuna bread are my dogs favourites but they are not my favourites to make :- " so I would appreciate any 'nice' recipes which anybody uses! I make cheese biscuits as well but they don't go down as well as the yucky ones

You could try basic peanut butter and yoghurt ones?

How to make them

1. Pour one tub of natural vanilla yoghurt into a a bowl

2. Add as much peanut butter as you desire

3. Make them into shapes or just dollop them into cupcake holders

4. Freeze

Note:It should take awhile for them to freeze

Dogs should enjoy:Licking the bowl, not to mention the spoon!

If they don't work, you could try taking some tuna and freezing it into little shapes with a sprinkling of grated cheese on top. :p

Thanks for the recipe, I'll give them a go. I don't mind making the tuna ones but the liver turns my stomach so they don't get that one as frequently

You're welcome  There are more recipes at http://www.i-love-dogs.com/dog-food-recipes.html

Liver Cake

¼ lb blended liver

2 eggs

2 cloves of garlic

1lb wholemeal flour

¾ cup water or as required.

Mix all the ingredients together until it's the consistency of a thick dough and spread out on a flat tray. Bake for approximately 45 minutes at Gas Mark 4 or 180°C. When cool, cut up into small cubes.

Cheese & Garlic Dog Cookies

1½ cups whole wheat flour

1¼ cups cheddar cheese - grated

¼ lb margarine

1 clove garlic - crushed

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cream the cheese with the softened margarine, then add garlic and flour. Chill for half an hour. Roll onto floured board. Cut into shapes and bake for 15 minutes or until slightly brown, and firm. Makes 2 to 3 dozen, depending on size.

Tuna Training Treats

2 6oz. cans tuna in water, do not drain

2 eggs

1 to 1½ cups wholemeal flour

1 tbsp. garlic powder

Parmesan cheese

Mash tuna and water in a bowl with a fork to get lumps out, then liquefy in blender or food processor. Add extra drops of water if needed to liquefy completely. Pour into bowl and add flour and garlic powder; consistency should be like cake mix. Spread into greased or sprayed pan; I find that a round pizza pan or square cake pan is perfect. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake at 350F degrees for 15 minutes; edges will pull away and texture will be like putty. Use a pizza cutter and slice into teeny squares. These freeze beautifully, and the dogs love them...and, no liver to mess with!

Light Biscuits for Belly Draggers

3 cups Whole wheat flour

1/4 cup Brewer's yeast

1/4 cup Dry milk powder

1 tsp. Garlic powder

1 tbs. Parsley - finely chopped

1 pkg. Dry active yeast

1 + 1/4cup Warm water

GLAZE

1 Egg beaten + 1 tbs. Milk

Preheat oven to 300F. Combine the flour, brewer's yeast, dry milk powder, garlic powder and parsley in large bowl. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and stir well. Pour the liquid mixture into dry ingredients. Working with your hands, combine all ingredients completely. Knead for several minutes. Sprinkle a board with additional flour and roll dough out to 1/4" thickness. Cut into shapes and place on un-greased cookie sheet. Brush lightly with egg glaze (beaten egg and milk added together) and bake 45 minutes. Turn heat off and let biscuits dry out in oven for several hours or overnight. Store in airtight container.

Breakfast Bars

12 cups oatmeal

4 cups whole wheat flour

8 eggs

3/4 cup olive oil

2/3 cup honey

1/2 cup molasses

2 cups milk

3 to 4 mashed bananas (optional)

Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease 2 cookie sheets. Put everything into a

large bowl. Mix everything together, pat onto greased cookie sheets & bake

for an hour. After 1 hour turn oven off, open oven door slightly and allow the

cookies to cool in oven. Cut into squares. This makes a lot of biscuits.

Doggie Coolers

2 fresh beef (or other species) marrow bones, each at least 1 in long

Water

In a saucepan, put the bones, and add enough water to cover the bones. Bring water to a boil; continue to boil for at least 10 min. (More time is ok, for a richer broth.) Remove bones, and return any beef marrow to the liquid, along with any meat that you can get off the bones. Cool the broth to room temperature. Pour liquid only into 2-4 ice cube trays. Chop up the marrow/meat/gristle into little bits, and put them into each section of the tray. Freeze solid. Serve 2-3 cubes to your dog on a very hot day. (Not too many if you made the broth very rich with extra bones or lots of marrow.)

Icy Paws

2 cartons plain or vanilla yogurt

1 small can tuna in water

2 teaspoon garlic powder

24 3oz. plastic cups (not paper)

Mix yogurt and tuna together in a bowl. Add garlic powder and stir thoroughly. Use a spoon and scoop the mixture into the cups. Place on a tray and freeze overnight. Makes about 24 treats.

VARIATIONS:

Anti Flea: Mix in garlic powder, brewers yeast & fennel seed.

Veggie Delight: Mix in cooked peas or other vegetables.

Chicken Icy Paws: use canned chicken instead of tuna

Potassium Boost: Add in a mashed banana.

Thanks for those recipes Kris - they look great!

I slice liver very thinly and spread it out on a baking tray and dry it out on a low setting in the oven.

My dogs go wappy for it and it's extremely healthy is small doses (low calorie)... but I suppose it isn't really 'baking' is it

Peanut Butter Carrot Cake

1 cup flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 cup shredded carrots

1 tsp. vanilla

1/3 cup honey

1 egg

Mix flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased 8" round cake pan and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Let cool. Puree cottage cheese in blender for icing. Decorate with more peanut butter and carrots.

Did you know? Carob can be used as icing aswell as a substitute to chocolate for dogs :)
