Hi,I am thinking of getting a non-ped race whippet. What is other racers opinions to kenneling them outside in a heated kennel with a concrete pen to exercise.Do racers think kenneling makes a hard, focussed race dog,Your opinions?

All ours are inside...

Some keep them in-

Some out-

I guess the best thing is whatever suits you

'Hard focussed dog'.....????? No I don't think so.

My opinion is all animals are individuals

What works for some won't necessarily work for another....

i agree with karen each dog is different. @ the moment we keep ours indoors in cages when we r not in.( not all the time) im begining to think they wud b better in kennels with runs rather than cages. some keep them in kennels when they r out but let them in the house when they r in. if u r getting a puppy then its best to do wotever u r gonna do from it being a pup. if its an adult then it will b used to either a house or a kennel.

Hi all its sadie here just thought id reply to this one. i always kept my whippets in the house but recently moved to a smaller house so didnt have room for 2 whippets and the english bull inside so we bought a kennel with a run, i wasnt sure how they would react outside with them being brought up in the house...but to my surprise they love being out side and i find that boo is alot happier being out i do let them out in the garden through the day tho so they can run and play on the grass,so like the others said it depends on the dog.

(w00t) :D

We have kennels outside for the dogs to sleep in, and if we are out. Otherwise, if we are in the back door is open and they can come in and out as they please, most of the time. I do believe that as long as you let your dog get used to it slowly, then wherever they are they will be happy. As for it making a 'hard focussed racing dog'.............. I think mine are more interested in a piece of chicken or a square of cheese (w00t) , not where they think they might sleep :- " Although i did find the empty cheese wrapper, that had originally had some very nice brie in, hidden in the dogs pen under the bedding  Just do what feels right..........and how much noise your neighbours are prepared to listen too

Chris.

well we have our dogs outside in a kennel that leads them to a full run of our yard but we dnt have any heatong or anything but if theres only 1 dog in the keenel i think it needs sum heat. our puppy stay in untill they are about 8 month i think then they go outside with the others. but when we all get in on a nite the dogs are in all note till we go to bed.

 ;)
