I have never been to a dogs trust. We got Oreo from RSPCA a few years ago.
At Christmas last year my gf bought me a sponsorship for the Oakfield Oldies at Dogs trust. It's basically an old house on the grounds of dogs trust full of old dogs enjoying there retirement.
I have continued to donate to them and have often been asked to visit and spend some time with the dogs.
So last Sunday morning we took the hour or so journey to go and visit the house and the dogs trust.
What an emotional day it was. We spent some time just fussing these old dogs and talking to the staff about the history of these dogs. Some were left to die others were just given up because the owner wanted a new younger dog.
I wanted to take them all home.
It was lovely to see where the donations go and what they do to make these dogs feel like they're in a home environment as much as possible.
The staff were so nice and we felt welcomed dispite the centre being very busy.
My experience with the RSPCA has sadly meant I won't be donating to them or visiting them anytime soon but that's another story.
It was lovely sitting watching people meet there potential dogs in the waiting area.
I haven't adopted through dogs trust but when that time comes for us to have another dog they will be the people we use I feel.
An emotional day but well worth the effort.
