Hi everyone, new here and looking for a little advice.
My 7yo bitch has been diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis and has been placed on a minimum 30-day course of doxycycline. She also has vitamin B complex which I give to her a couple of hours after the antibiotics.

After 3 days of being on the tablets she started showing definite signs of improvement but 11 days into the course she has started to lose her appetite and is showing signs of discomfort in the legs - her feet look swollen to me. She is eating a little and is drinking normally but she is restless and occasionally shivers even when warm. The vet told me I could give her an Analgin tablet for pain if needed. My concern is her feet - is this a symptom of the disease or a late-onset side effect of the drugs?? r something else altogether?

Any advice appreciated.

I'm going to take her in tomorrow morning. I tried to speak to the vet today but she didn't really understand what I was talking about - Her English is good but it's better if I take the dog with me if that makes sense!

Vet has checked her over, run another blood screen. everything is looking good and her appetite has returned a little today. Not quite so restless either. Her feet are still a concern but the vet checked here and said there is no swelling, nothing stuck in her pads and they aren't warm so it doesn't look like an infection. More blood to see if there is anything else goign on, will know in a few days. FIngers crossed she improves a little each day.

I know nothing about doxycycline so unable to help but I hope she continues to improve x

Getting there, although the pills are not really agreeing with her! 2 days to go then back for a check up and tests on her kidneys - just to make sure no lasting damage has been done.

Hi all, sorry for being absent for a while but it's been a he'll of a couple of weeks. Just had to take the decision to put our beautiful girl to sleep. In the last couple of weeks she suddenly became very aggressive towards our other dogs. Vet tests and examinations concluded her liver was shot and although we started treatment it was too far gone. We could have kept her comfortable but she would have been in total isolation from the only family she ever knew and we couldn't know if she would turn her aggression on one of us next time. We felt and the vet felt that having her put to sleep was for the best as her quality of life had gone down and wasn't going to get any better. RIP my beautiful baby girl, I will miss you so much.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm sure you made the very best decision possible for your wonderful girl xx

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry, your poor baby :( R.I.P girly, hope you're in doggy heaven running pain free in lush green fields ❤️ xx
