DYLAN
Dylan is a 16 month old greyhound boy who was handed in to us when he wasn’t good enough for the racing life. He is a tall, handsome boy with a dark brindle coat and the most adorable floppy ears!
Dylan came in to us in a very shell-shocked, fearful state, showing signs of having received rough treatment in his past. He is now in foster care, however, and is improving at a steady pace as he adjusts to the massive change. Though nervous of strangers, he bonds very closely to you once he knows he can trust you.
Dylan is very good with other dogs and is currently sharing his foster home with several other greyhounds and a Jack Russell. He would do best going to a home with another dog or a pack already established so that he can learn from them and gain confidence from following their example. He is also suitable to live in a home with cats.
This lovely boy is still just a puppy and has so much potential to be that perfect companion. With the right owners, Dylan will continue to improve and gain in confidence as he learns that not everything out there is scary or dangerous. He is starting to enjoy his life again now as he begins to trust people.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE 08/2010**
Dylan is still in foster care while he waits for his forever home. This gorgeous boy has done a complete turn around since coming in to us, and is now nearly unrecognisable from the scared little pup he was a month ago.
He absolutely loves other dogs, large and small, and loves to play with them, as you can see! He can be a wee bit shy of strangers, particularly men, but he soon comes out of himself and gains great confidence from having other dogs around him.
Dylan will likely be a bit timid when he first moves to his new home as it will be a big change for him, but after a few days he is sure to come around be the happy, bubbly guy we now see.
Lucky Dylan is a very special boy, and reminds us why we continue to help unwanted, abused and neglected greyhounds find their forever home. Below is a youtube video of his story.
This gorgeous boy is currently in foster care in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in adopting Dylan, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!
