A note from another list - looks like ebay is wanting to set this up for the

first of the year - I for one, will not be doing any business on ebaY or with PayPal if they follow through with it.

Please cross post far and wide.

ebaY is taking feedback on whether or not they should allow animals to be auctioned off.

madness!!! some peoples responses, 'oh, its a great idea, think how many animals will be adopted from rescue'?! fair enough to view an animal, then contact the rescue, followed by home checks etc. but if the person wanting the animal isnt even prepared to get off the computer and see the animal in the flesh....ye gods, is that person someone they should even consider worthy of looking after a stuffed pet?

a lot more research is needed, to make this workable. puppy farmers must be rubbing their hands with glee :(

I've replied and said a big no no to this whole idea. I think it's important for us all to go over there and put our 2penneth worth in.

As if introducing a fee for it makes it any better

A definate no-no.

MADNESS THEY WILL RUE THE DAY!!! IT WILL OPEN UP A WHOLE NEW CAN OF WORMS!!

ANY EXCUSE TO MAKE MONEY!

I DISAGREE WITH IT WHOLE HEARTEDLY!

Okay I've given them my thoughts on the matter and spread the word to other internet dog lists.

It would be horrendous! I've replied & left my thoughts. A DEFINITE NO!

How does this really differ from an ad for puppies on 'Loot' for example? I've seen blatent puppy farm ad's on Loot week in week out but it doesn't seem to carry much public outcry as ebay is? Is it because ebay is predominately an auction site, and therefore bringing in classifieds for puppies could be mistaken for auctions?

Don't get me wrong I'm not a big fan of ebay and their company PayPal makes me feel :x

It's a big no for live animals on ebay, IMO, it's bad enough to se Loot knocking them out like they do. We don't need ebay encouraging puppy farming and idiot buying. If would be owners are guided to the right sources, we will see less and less dogs offered for re-sale and the rescues will have a little less to deal with - how many of the breed rescues intake is caused by people falling in love with the pretty litle puppy without giving any thought to the adult dog. A reputable breeder will do everything they can to ensure that the right puppy ends up in the right home - first time. I SAY NO TO LIVE ANIMALS ON EBAY

GOOD NEWS -THE WHOLE IDEA IS "OFF".

Lori, from e-bay, has e-mailed me to say that they are not going to sell pets for profit on e-bay. She says they will act as an introduction service for rescue homes and people looking for a rescued pet.

Apparently there has been sacksful of messages like mine saying "don`t" and they have decided to leave the worms firmly in the can!

Is the following response the same as yours from Lori?? Or a different one??

"Thanks for getting in touch with me to share your views regarding new services we’re considering to bring sellers and buyers of pets together. It’s clear that our members see a strong distinction between pet adoption (e.g., the kind offered by responsible local shelters and advocated by leading animal welfare organizations) and selling pets for profit, which unfortunately can be associated with behavior that’s inhumane and/or illegal. I want you to know that we at eBay.com understand and agree with this distinction.

Based on responses from members like you – including many animal welfare professionals -- we’re going to exclude commercial breeders and for-profit sale of pets from further consideration. Instead, we’ll focus the discussion on listings of available rescue animals from vetted local shelters to support responsible pet adoption.

It’s clear that we need to proceed very carefully. As our plans take shape, we’ll again ask for input from our community. In the meantime, thanks for sharing your views with us.

Sincerely,

Lori"

Just curious as this seems to be a "form letter" that a bunch of people are receiving.

Yes,that`s what I got!

I replied to it and explained in further detail how awful the idea is amd that, as a responsible breede, I would never dream of using such a service. Neither would any breeders I know. Even if kittens were as popular as a bacon butty in a Synagogue. ;)
