Hello and excited to be joining the dog forum. We are collecting our first puppy in May time, so I'm researching all things puppy related and trying to get prepared!. She is a bichon x pug and we plan to call her Coco. We have 3 young children who have been asking for a dog for years, so this is going to be a big step for us. I'm looking forward to reading all the posts and hopefully finding some sage advice. x

Welcome to the forum - do please share lots of puppy photos with us when Coco arrives!

Hello and welcome! How exciting - looking forward to seeing pics of Coco.

I would strongly recommend you & your children attend some dog training classes as spectators. Most trainers are fine with this, especially if you offer a small donation to their costs of hiring the hall/field/arena they train in. Ask people you know who have very nice well-behaved dogs, which people they would recommend for a trainer. Trainers vary just like teachers - you need to find ones that use kind reward-based training, and you should run like the wind from those who talk about alpha/pack/dominance, which is nonsense but hangs on despite being thoroughly discredited for years.

Have a look through our pinned threads for training tips and mental stimulation games with your dog.
