i myself so not have deerhounds but my mom does.

there has been alot of hoo haa about factor 7.

what i want to know is why was every one panicing because i am sure that the deerhounds have lived with it for years and it has not affected them.

so why are the panicing??? :wacko:
 
Pardon my ignorance, but what is factor 7?

Because these hereditary conditions get worse the more they are ignored!

Surely if there is some evidence that a hereditary condition such as this exists, everything should be put into creating (if not already available) tests to diagnose, and then only breeding from cleared stock.

I have asked my mom about Factor 7 and this is what she says,

Factor 7 is 1 of numerous bleeding disorders. Factor 7 is a very minor one.

No Deerhound has died from Factor 7. There is only one case of a Deerhound dying from excessive bleeding during a routine spaying procedure. This bitch was factor 7 clear. This was in America. There is a dna test available but it is carried out in Pennsylvania, USA. My mom has had all her breeding stock tested.

Deerhounds have a very small gene pool so it would be unwise to rule out breeding from carrier stock. Affected dogs can be used but they should be put to clear dogs.
