My oldest whip has a largish fatty lump on his rib behind his shoulder.

We have had it checked about 6 months ago....had needle biopsy etc,

If it caused any problems then we would talk about removing.

It is the size of half a tennis ball, movable and isn't causing any pain.

The last week or two I have noticed he has a slight limp....checked his paws, had a feel etc.

We put him on house rest for a couple days.

Tonight he has been lying infront of the fire, got up and had quite a bad limp. I have massaged it thinking he may of laid funny and maybe had pins and needles.

It seems to be coming more from his shoulder.

Its the same shoulder/leg that has the fatty lump.

I think a visit to the vet may be in order...just to see if they can see anything I might be missing :(

I feed him mainly raw/meaty bones.

Wondered if I gave him cod liver oil...would it help and what sort of dose would I need to give.

I know its a long shot.....do you think the fatty lump could be affecting him...perhaps when he is lying on that side it may be pressing on a nerve?

we went for a longish stroll today and no evidence of any limp.

Any ideas....

Best seek your vets advice, sounds like a cyst to me

:luck:

How old is he?

Depending on his age it could be a touch of arthritis. It tends to be more evident following rest after exercise

Not sure how old.

he was a rescue....found wandering :b

RSPCA said he was approx 4-6 when we adopted him.

I have had him five half years....

Back in July a vet said he was probably 7-8....no older!

If it is arthritis....anything i can do to help.

Mmmmmm, might be that.

You can give him glucosamine (joint supplement which you can buy in most pet shops), it certainly won't do him any harm.

Maybe a little cod liver oil, as you mentioned, but introduce it slowly as it has quite a pungent smell and taste (w00t)

Keep him warm at all times and a nice massage every evening is good too

Probably best to ask the vet after Christmas.....if it is arthritis you may need some pain killers for him as it progresses but it sounds quite mild at the moment.

Good luck :luck: and have a lovely Christmas and New Year

thanks....will go and get him some tabs tomorrow and start giving him them.

also i think i will take a short video of him at his worse...to show vet...will be easier than trying to explain :sweating:

Wishing you all a super dooper xmas....where ever you maybe on the day :*

Could be pressing on a nerve and giving him shooting pains or tingles (I'm currently having nerve problems with my back so he has my sympathy :( :* )

I buy cod-liver oil capsules from Holland & Barrett (health food shop) and give the dogs one each twice a week. It's strong stuff so you don't want to overdo it.
