Hi pep's :)

I will be picking up my puppy end of this month and he will be 10 weeks then, a collie/greyhound. They will be giving me some of there food to be going on with! Now what I would like to know is because I want to feed tripe, chickhen etc meat what would be recomended to accompany it? At mo my other dog which is a Rottie is on tripe, chickhen etc with a mixer of 18% and some kelp powder and apple cider vinegar, eggs with natural yogart sometimes in the week. Now i know puppies need a higher protein level, so can anyone suggest something as Im out of touch with puppies, and also with in reason for the purse strings!! :(

Dont give it anything with too much protein in it coz their little tummys cant handle it ;) .

I have always fed my pups on Beta Puppy or Chudleys puppy complete food with a bit of warm water and a handful of mince meat. Plus a nice bowle of goats milk twice a week - this is good for their bones and also goats milk is a bit more fattening for them - a puppy with a bit of weight on it is a healthy pup. They need that bit of fat to burn when they are so active (which is most of the time when they are growing up).

you also need fat to turn to mussel

Best of luck with the pup :clown:

And you are right about the worming of them if you are feeding them raw meat.

Thanks very much for you help, I am now the proud owner of my pup which I picked up only this monday , they gave me the food they've been feeding which is alpha field nuggets 25% protein, which he didn't seem to eat much of , but loves the meat i've been putting in to get him to eat! I will buy the beta puppy as suggested, the meat side of things is not a prob!! Though am concerned abit that he is not eating much complet!

Yayyyy - so exciting having a new puppy - make sure we get lots of pictures

OMG 25% protein - get it off that right away, god that will kill a pup. some people.

With the complete food (beta puppy) add a little warm water to it to sofen it and release the juice....he will start to eat it but if he has been on that high protein food then it will take a little while for his tummy to settle. Just stick with it and when he is hungry he will eat it. If i was you i would leave off the meat for a week or so as well - give his body a chance to settle into his new diet and routine. Once he is eating his complete then introduce the meat a little to a time. Dont feed to many tipbits in between meals untill you have got him eating meals, other wise he wont eat his food knowing he will be getting something else anyway!! Dogs are very clever ;)

Have a look on the back of the packet and see how much he should be having for his weight - add 50grams and split the amount into 3 meals a day - too much in his bowle in one go and he wont eat it!!

Best of luck and keep us updated :D

Any more info needed just ask

There is a difference in the mix between adult food and puppy food!

Puppies do need protein & complete puppy food is of a higher protein & it will NOT kill them.

My pup is on a 32%(Royal Canin, fed by her breeder). Arden Grange is 26% protein.

The percent is really not so difficult, it means that out of to make it easy, say 100 grams(approx 4 ounces) there is in your food 25 grams(approx 1 oz) of protein & the other 75%(approx 3 oz) is made of other things which should be listed in the ingredients.
