Hello,

I am new to this forum. We lost our cat of 22 years five weeks ago and I said to my daughter it would be a nice idea to get a dog as it would be good company for me and take the dog out when ready. Well, we bought a Cocker Spanial puppy who we have had for two weeks, in that time I have changed my mind and no longer want the dog, but my daughter says the dog called Willow is staying . Sunday evening my daughter went out to work and as I went back into the front room I fell over Willow on my head, hurt my feet and finger and right hand. I rang my daughter on her mobile who came back and took one look at my head and straight up to the Hospital, we got there at 7 pm and did not get home until 12 midnight. I have two big bumps on my head, I am very bruised all over my head and face, I look as if I have had a fright with someone. Lol. My eyes are bad too.

My daughter is now thinking about what to do regarding Willow, as she is concerned. Willow is too much for us to handle and NOT being able to go and walk her yet because her injections have been put back due to her having poo problems and changing diet the vet told us to do which has made no difference.

We do take her out to our local park in a dog sling and everywhere we can to let her see the outside world.

I also DO NOT LIKE the biting of my feet and legs by the dog even if that's what they do.

Would anyone please if they can give me some advice as I am completing scared and upset about the dog

and am on my own regarding not wanting the dog.

Thank you

Catherine.

Hello,

The responsibility of a young cocker spaniel can be very much like hard work for some, if you have a working type they are not always suitable for the elderly or inactive and some should never be first time dog either!

I would gladly come and relieve you of this unwanted pup for her sake as well as yours, she would be welcome to join our family.

However I am sure that with time and training she will become a valueable companion for you. It just takes time, puppies do not come all ready grown up and sensible!

All puppies will get under your feet and in the way, we have 5 working type cockers , our youngest is 14 months and a very sensible little girl our oldest is 10 years, there is always one of the bunch that tries to trip me up or get in the way.

Don't be put off they are great dogs. Excuseme is right, they can be hard work, but totally worth it.

All puppies can be a pains at the beginning but you shouldn't give up on them. Once you can get her outside for walks I'm sure you will see an improvement. Also look at some kind of puppy training. Once an adult you could even look at agility/obedience/flyball, all of these will help promote good behaviour while draining any excess energy.

Keep positive.
