Set off nice & early to Nigels for todays ferreting trip the weather was sunny & warm as i got near Blackburn the sky went black & the rain was starting i thought we are in for a soaking today but a few miles down the road the sun was shining again & continued to shine all day a quick change of cars & a brew at Nigels & we were on our way as we approached the intended farm we could see rabbits everywhere & in big groups so as we pulled up we spotted the farmer rounding up some sheep & walked over to say hello he asked us to look at some warrens in the middle of a field close to the reed field so off we set in pursuit of coney ;) we started by bolting some rabbits for the dogs to loosen them up after the car trip they duely abliged by adding the first pair of rabbits to the bag a few more were run but made the walls on we went with both of the dogs marking flushing & catching well we soon had a dozen rabbits & that feeling that everything was going to well we walked the reed field where the girls added another rabbit as we were going out the other side of the field the farmer was sat watching on his quad as the girls flushed a rabbit that ran straight past him suzie caught the rabbit as the farmers wheel chasing collie charged up to where the whippets were & grabbed Missy by the back leg & set about her for no reason as we headed to the trouble missy started running to me as she is no fighter the collie attacked again i managed to pick Missy up as the farmer got the collie under control Suzie growled at the collie & i think thats what stopped her being attacked anyway Missy had 5 punctures on the inside of her leg & 2 on the outside she was not lame but shaken we agreed that we would do a few more warrens & head for home as we walked away to the next field Missy ran to the wall & would not come away so i walked up to her & she started digging at the stone wall a quick look & there was mr rabbit out with a few stones & Nigel pulled the rabbit out missy still would not move & Suzie agreed with her a few feet along the wall was Mrs Rabbit a few rocks moved & happy days we moved on to the last warren of the day where we added another 10 rabbits it was thick & fast ferreting by now Missy had started to stiffen up & her leg was bruised so we packed up & went back to the car & rechecked Missy she was quite sore so home we went where Nurse Shirley was waiting with a full medical kit to repair Missy & clean her up she had some arnica & is now home & sleeping soundly the bag for today was 26 with an early flirt Thanks Shirley & Nigel for the Vet job ;)Missy will be fine. :)

Farm collies- not my favourite animals > :( Missy did well despite her injuries , her marking is fantastic , just after we got going again she strongly marked a drystone wall, her mark was 100% accurate and we got 2 rabbits as a result

The Lord of the Knight breeding in these whippets gives a fantastic nose, and some say whippets have no nose ;D .

Suzie did well too , and she is becoming an invaluable part of our rabbiting team whilst Gypsy is laid up
