Our friends have lost their dog.

She has been missing since Thursday afternoon so they now have little hope of getting her back.

She is a very distinctive dog as she is a Pyranean Mountain dog.

    So far they have:

Contacted Dog warden in somerset & Devon (as we are on the border)

    Contacted local kennels and RSPCA

    Contacted POlice

Put posters up in local post offices, pubs, farms, dog walking areas - a reward is offered.

Knocked on the door of all local farms

    Driven round looking for her

    Nothing :(

Bonnie knows the area and I'm sure that if she could have - she would have gone back to the field where she went missing (where their horses are kept)

Is there anything else we could do?

Obviously now the worry is that she has been killed or injured - or someone has her and has no intention of returning her as she is a valuable entire bitch. As she is so distinctive if she is still in the lcoal area she will be spotted so it's more likely that she will be sold on out of the area. Any ideas?

She is not microchipped and wears no ID - but I think enough people know ie if they ring the dog warden they should re-unite them?

Her family are frantic and desperate to find her again. She is such a lovely friendly dog - it's awful to think of what might have happened to her. If someone does have her I only hope they will look after her propery and love her like her family do.

    sorry for your sad news

please make sure that you phone as many vets around your area as possible. At the vets that i worked we had so many cases whereupon people would find a stray and injured dog miles and miles from their own home and not think of going to a local vet - instead they would drive the dog all the way back to us as we were the vets that they knew and trusted.

    sending lots of luck x

Sometime ago sokeone who worked with OH had a boxer stolen they were advised to put on all the posters and the radio papers etc that he had a serious heart condition and needed daily medication this was done and the dog returned as they were not prepared to pay out for it they said they found it and took it in but when they saw the ads realised it was the dog and rang them

:luck: :luck: in finding Bonnie safe and sound and hoping she is soon back home

I can only add a little to all the things your friends have already done, check with the local council to make sure that there have been no fatalities (a horrible job, but better done) and as well as the excellent Lostdog website try Petsearch as well, sorry I don't have the address, but I am sure a search will soon bring it up. The more people that are aware, the better. Check back with the police, if they are as useless as round here it is worth a try. Some police stations have seperate books for dogs handed in and taken to the local stray kennels and another for items retained by the finder, also, police never seem to liaise between neighbouring stations so make sure that your friends check them all. The same applies to the RSPCA and local stray kennels, keep reminding them. If she should end up in a stray kennel, they only have 7 clear days to claim her, after that they would have a heck of a job to get her back.

Please give them my best wishes and I really hope that they find her.

    :(

Send posters out to all vets, pet shops etc in the local and immediate area.

Worth listing on DogPages too (if not already) http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php

Hope they find her soon, don't lose hope, beat to call into any stray pounds too as telephone calls don't always find the dog - best to check in person every few days.

Try visiting the dog pounds in person, dont rely on them saying they haven't got a dog like that. Despite what you might imagine, a lot of them dont know one dog breed from another, if she's got covered in mud she might not look like a white dog to them! I was told by our local RSPCA that they definitely didn't have the orange pomeranian who had escaped from our garden, but I went to see for myself and there she was......logged as a brown chihuahua! Also if there are any travellers sites around the area, enquire there, they might have found her and not bothered to report it.

    This is Bonnie

    Still no luck. :luck:

We've tried the Police and Dog Warden in both Somerset & Devon again today. Think we might look round the kennels this afternoon.

Jools also suggested we contact Pyranean Rescue so that's just been done too.

I did find a lost Labrador when I was out looking for her so atleast one lost dog has been re-united with it's owner.

We lost our rough collie dog whilst out walking with the dogs on 21st December last year. One minute he was there sniffing at something in the grass (he always walked behind us) and the next minute he was gone. We walked miles and miles looking for him, checking ditches and hedges in case he had got caught up or fallen etc but to no avail. We put up posters in local pubs, shops and the local fish and chip shop etc and also sent his photo into Petsearch UK and Dogs Lost. We have never found him and never had any calls, despite offering a £1,000 reward. He was 14 years old when he went missing and was only a couple of minutes walk away from home so it appears that he was stolen. Many people have intimated that it was very likely that the local gypsies took him to sell on as apparently this has happened a lot around this area and several people who have also had their dogs taken have gone to local camps and enquired/offered rewards for info and the dogs have turned up. The local vet also advised us that over 60 dogs have gone missing in the last three months - a very frightening statistic.

Our dog was micro-chipped but despite contacting all of the local dogs homes etc we have heard nothing. It is horrid not knowing what has happened to him and if he is being well looked after in a loving home, or even if he is still alive. I really hope you find your friends dog - she is a beautiful looking animal.

That's a horrible story, Emily :( I'm so sorry to hear you lost your dog in such a way. At 14 years old too :( That sort of event is among everyone's worst nightmares, isn't it.

I have had real bad luck with my dogs over the last eight months - losing Jesse the rough collie at 14 years back on the 21st Dec last year, and then our lovely lurcher Tyack died after collapsing out on a walk on the 20th September - he was only nine years. We miss both of them terribly and it is awful not knowing what has happended to Jesse - he was such a soft dog and never once bit or growled. We now have one dog left - a pointer X called Pedro who is 11 years going on 2, but havin gone is not the same as having the three to walk, love and look after.

I really hope you find Bonnie - don't give up hope as I am still waiting for that phone call telling me that someone has Jesse.

    FOUND HER :D :D :D

I've spent the last hour on the phone and it struck me that not everyone would know what a Pyranean was so I rang back and just asked for a 'big white dog' and she was picked up in Exeter (40 miles away) city centre   on Friday.

She is also weating a different collar  so someone has picked her up and then driven her to Exeter and them dumped her again for some reason? (Or she has manged to escape?) We'll never know.

Bonnie would have been reunited with her family on Friday if she's been chipped - so I hope they do that this afternoon!

Emily - I really hope you find out what has happened to your dog. :luck:

Rae - so glad to hear the news that Bonnie has been found - she is a lucky dog and I also hope that she gets a microchip put in now! I bet her family are so pleased to have her back.
