 help.i need some advice.Im going to my first ever whippet show. Its the first time for both me and solo. What coller do i need?any tips for preparing him.i havnt found any information on how to show whippets. How do you get them to not get excited over seeing the other puppies?

Hi Elyssa

You need a show lead for showing and just your ordinary collar and lead when not in he ring.Do you have a crate to put him in as it is a lot easier for you and the dog instead of standing around all day, these things can go on!

I personaly hve never found my dogs puppies or adults have ever gotten over excited even at their first shows, they tended to take everything in their stride though they do go to Ringcraft classes and are pretty well socialised with other dogs.

As for preparing him,it's quite basic with Whippets just short nails, clean teeth, bit of a groom and I don't know about everyone else on here but I like to tidy up the tails and stray hairs around the face too.

You will get loads of tips on here from people who have been showing a hell of a lot longer than me,but maybe these of mine have helped a bit. :p

Very Good Luck to you and Solo :luck: may this be the first show of many for you both

P.s What show is it as there may be someone from here going that could help you out when you get there. ;)

Where are you going? Try to contact someone else on K9 before you go so that you can meet up at the show and have a chat before your class. Get to the show in plenty of time to walk your pup around for a while before his/her class. Get chatting to people, most will be helpful if you tell them it is your first show. When you go in the ring watch everyone else and see what they are doing, where the judge is asking them to move and whether it is a triangle and straight up and down, or some other pattern. Try not to go first in class, (not possible if you have be in number order and you name begins with "A"). Watch your pup at all times, try to keep him standing nicely and do not stand too close to the next one or they may wind each other up and end up playing the fool just when the judge glances your way, which they may do at any time.
