Please excuse me being really, really angry ... my son and his g/f have been over with us for the weekend. Less than an hour ago he rang me to say he was home (it's a 3-hour journey to where he lives) ... and then he'd not been home 20 minutes, when the next door neighbour children had broken 2 of his car's passenger windows. They'd been throwing stones at it, from in their garden (son's car was in his back garden where you'd presume it was safe).

I feel so angry on his behalf. apparently he's spoken to their dad who was annoyed at what his children did and has offered to "sort out getting the windows replaced" but that won't be for a couple of days. So his car's going to be vulnerable (and in the flipping weather we're having at the minute).

I have told my son he still needs to involve the police.

It is all so frustrating. These children are under 10 so I doubt anything will be done; someone should give them a really cross telling off (to say the very least).

I am really, really annoyed for my son and his g/f.

Please excuse me having a bit of a rant but my son is 3 hours away so I can't go and do anything practical to help and my husband is at work.

That's awful . If the parents of these children do not get control of their children then their behaviour will only get worse

How upsetting for everyone concerned. It's hard to believe. We've had cars vandalised by the local youth, usually overnight as they go by after a night on the booze (scratched, footprints where they've walked over them... I even found parts of my old golf in the park one morning (w00t) ), but for it to be the neighbours kids ...!

What unbelievably awful behaviour

...... and with the car on your son's premises too!!!!

I really don't agree with this politically correct attitude that kids shouldn't receive physical discipline anymore. Nothing wrong with a quick smack at the right time IMO, how else can a young child learn the difference between right and wrong? If parents were prepared to bring their kids up properly, this sort of thing wouldn't be happening!!! :(

At least the father has offered to sort the damage out, but the kids need sorting out too

What next? House breaking? torturing animals? robbing old ladies?

Kids of 10 are capable of murder these days, as demonstrated by the demise of poor little Jamie Bulger, RIP.

Something has to change!!

This doesnt suprise me in the least......parents need to be watching their kids not let them run riot......we have had cars vandalised down our road a few weeks ago...group of youths..pulling wing mirrors off.....if i had seen them they would have got a right rollocking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no respect these days and the little bleeders know you cant touch them so they dont give a stuff !!

Thanks for the support everyone - it still hasn't been sorted out satisfactorily yet (note the hopeful use of the word "yet") - my son's car windows are still broken and the "friend" who was meant to be doing the repairs hasn't been in touch today as per the agreement  - son will have to go round to ask again.

The police were involved and were very supportive and helpful, and if things don't get sorted (ie windows replaced) my son has to ring them back and they'll get on the case again - so that's something at least (though what they'll be able to do, not quite sure at this stage).

There have been times where I live, where damage has been caused to cars parked on the street (my own included) caused by random yobs "entertaining" themselves by damaging cars as they wander down the road ... but you would think your car would be OK parked in your back garden, wouldn't you?

I still feel cross!!!!!
