Hello

I recently adopted a 2 year old golden retriever who has a food allergy. He is allergic to chicken, pork, breads and cheese (his previous owners had him tested). He would get really itchy, inflamed ears requiring antibiotics and steroids. His previous owners have cut out all food and started him on a fish based dry food which seems to be working. He can also eat cooked carrots and broccoli. Does anyone have any experience with anything similar to this? Also, I was thinking of trying tuna, sardines and mackerel to give him a bit of variety, if that seems ok?

Thanks

I haven't had experience of food allergies, but if you wanted to give him variety I would be inclined to only try one type of fish, or different veg, at a time, just in case the change kicks off a reaction... especially as you've only recently adopted him. It might even be a good idea to wait a bit until he's had time to really settle with you, before you change anything.

Thanks folks. I’m going to keep him on dry food only for the next couple of weeks then see how he is. He should be a bit more settled then. Then slowly try other things, but small portions and one at a time.
