Hi all,

Just wanted your views on what you think is best to feed your whippets for racing, not all the feeds are going to be the same and just wanted some pro's and con's off you all thanks alot

It's an ongoing debate Steve :)

Ask a dozen people and get a dozen different answers.

Once a whippet is in serious training and working out every day, he/she will need protein. How it gets it is another question!

There are specially formulated dry foods such as Red Mills Racer, Wafcol etc who use a base biscuit and soak it in a protein "soup" before baking.

A lot of people prefer to feed more traditional protein containing foods such as meat, eggs etc.

Mine have Butchers tinned loaf which has fewer added nasties than most tinned stuff, mixed with Tescos Valu Mincemeat and a small amount of mixer biscuit. They do get a few extra treats, like chicken on occasion.

I'm a big fan of Burns food. Cheap it ain't though. Made by a vet who got fed up changing dogs' diets to something healthy.

They do a complete food called Active which is VAT free as it is meant for "working" dogs.

Thanks for your views, I'm an ex-jockey and have worked in horse racing for 15 years and I know what its like with the horses and the different foods you can give them, different trainers use all sorts of different feeds.

I think I'm just going to play around with it and see which one suits the dog/bitch and go from there. Thanks for your comments again.

remember to keep it simple dont over do not to many extras and supplementscomplete meals are all much the same if you want add a little mince meat and veg depending on the protien content not to much soaked in a drop of gravy and make it regular feeding times good luck
