EVENING ALL recovered from a long day at THE MID WEST open sunday ,,first off big thanks TO ALL WHO ATTENDED....to all the grafters on the day who worked there socks off, without them the show stops!!!!

was a good days racing... after a few early problems all was well ,did a few pics of the winners,,and the best pic of the day must go to janes crutch!! lololol ,,bless her xx

Big up to the lads form cornwall who made the trip up,,dogs all ran well and looked a picture.the track was spot on ..hats off to mr scrooge!! aka michael the track man and his hard work ,,and after reading a few comments from other folk i have to agree ,,,[ only my thoughts] are that with the discussions about trophies ,,can see it from amanda;s post with costs and payouts etc there is not a lot left!!! so as members that pay into the bwra is it not time to look at knocking on there door to dig there hand in there pockets and provide SUPREME WINNERS TROPHIES where theres not one put forward, must say IMO only,, if we ever had anything running that could run in a supreme and then win it i would be gutted not to receive any trophy,,after all the hard work and COSTS that comes with whippet racing.

and as for the low attendance of opens all over the country with most folk saying the same things,, IE RISING FUEL COSTS,TO MANY OPENS,NOT ENOUGH DOGS, TO FAR NORTH,TO FAR SOUTH, why are we still having opens that clash!! that are put on the same day either Saturday or sunday points or non points!! SURELY if we only had 1 option to travel or not then some of these opens would be better attended,, more £££ in the pots a lot less SOLOS and a lot more competition and if that means a few less opens in the year then IMHO thats got to be the way forward,, instead we get opens that clash and folk stay near to home as they can and we end up with only a hand full of runners at each of the opens that are on be it north or south,if we are to keep the sport alive and attract NEW RACERS for the future then change maybe the only answer!???

ALL THE BEST BIG THANKS AGAIN FOR A GREAT DAY OUT.pete and the girls. have also put on a few from the scruples whippet rescue open last year thanks for to all who ran.

I think racers are paying out enough as it is with the cost of entering your dog plus fuel costs, and that is only at club level. When you travel to opens it costs you a lot more, and if the trophies that were given out were returned and in good condition there would not be a need to keep replacing them thus keeping the costs down. Small clubs and small regions do not have the luxury of lots of members to support this kind of thing.

great pics yr track looks great. just a thing with the trophy situation, wot we did in our region (north east ie wallsend) was @ our agm we asked the members to donate trophies 4 each open which they did so @ each open we have trophies 4 pups/vets/yearlings/36/40/55/no limit etc then i was asked to be trophy officer. so i take pics of who has won and get them to sign for them and i have a book they all go in so i can track who has them etc.

Why not just buy trophies that the winners have a pic took with  and the club keeps them for next open and for supreme have a shield that they have dogs name engraved but club keeps all trophies as most people I speak to say they have to many trophies anyway  J.m.o. I personally would sooner take trophy home if ever won an open but if funds not there what can you do
