I managed to dodge the heavy showers today and do a few miles along an old railway line near to Buxton, now called The Tissington Trail. It was very easy going, just what Fred likes these days..... and I just happened to have my little camera to hand :-

Off we set..Fred prefers the grass sidings..

Stan soon builds up steam and races ahead...

Come on...keep puffing Fred...he shouts:

We steamed past some lovely scenery along the way...the light was showing up different features of the landscape each time:

Fred signalled to stop and take a photo of him...

and another...

Fantastic pics as always

The boys looking gorgeous too especially Fred

another one of the old signal box...and a small railway shack...

The trail is very popular with cyclists...

So much so that we had to quite often stop to let them pass....

PA240326.jpg

Stan is eternally nosey, and stared at this cow and calf for quite some time..

PA240329.jpg

The walk follows a raised embankment for much of the way....

PA240331.jpg

Steady Fred...it's quite steep..

PA240334.jpg

He beats a hasty retreat..

Stan's eyebrows have a life of their own...

Saw this snail lodged in the bridge wall...

Finally...Fred back at home...tired and content..

Fred and Stan are both looking so very well

It is lovely around the Buxton area. Funny how other peoples walks always look so wonderful :))

I suppose we take the natural beauty of our local area for granted all too often. :D

You alwas post the most lovely interesting photos. You should work for the local tourist board ;)

Lord Fred of the manor content after his fantastic walk

Never noticed Fred's tail before. Has he hurt it ?

Brilliant photos Nicola.  I really love the landscape photos with the differing light.

Fred and Stan look gorgeous as always.

We were in Derbyshire last weekend (Friday to Monday) and walked part of the Tissington Trail on the Sunday. It was on the route of a circular walk starting and ending in Milldale (such a pretty village) and we walked through Tissington Village. The weather was really glorious for most of the weekend and we had a great time. :)

I don't know why we haven't been to Derbyshire for years as it is relatively near and a very easy journey. We do plan to visit more often in the future.

Yes...he whacked it a few weeks back on something...not really sure what happened, but a little curler splint was put around it for a while. It came off just last week, but I haven't got around to taking the plaster off yet until I'm certain everything is OK.

Wouldn't it have been funny if you'd visited this weekend and we'd bumped into one another? We missed each other in Scotland last year by just a few hours at Eileen Donan Castle as well  I'm glad you enjoyed it...hope to bump into you sometime!

Great pictures - love to see the boys, I would love a walk like that to do, something a bit different.

This landscape is outstanding!!!

Thank you. The line of trees was very eye catching...especially with the nice lighting. I nearly didn't bother taking my camera today as the weather looked so poor when I set off. Just goes to show...never underestimate the weather! ;)

Yes - I had forgotten about being in Scotland at the same time as you. It is a small world sometimes!! We did meet a couple on the Tissington Trail with a beautiful young brindle male whippet, so stopped to chat for a while. :)

We stayed on a caravan site in a pretty village called Dethick, not far from Matlock.

Lovely photos as usual Nicola. Any good for our next walk then? Looks to be quite a lot of sheep and low walls, and with the cyclists as well Jonah could end up spending a lot of time on the lead! (w00t)

Hi Gillian, I've just reported back to you at at 'Campaign Find Jonah-friendly Walks in Derbyshire' HQ (FB). I'm afraid it's not very Jonah friendly...loads of low walls and cyclists. :sweating: A whole school party cycled past this morning...I was forever stepping out of their way as they rang their bells...but they were all very polite kids and said thank you each time....bless o:)

Typical Derybyshire village name :- ...... I love it around Matlock...I don't get down that way often enough..

Brilliant photos, I keep meaning to take Tiny on to the Tissington Trail, it's not that far from us.

It's certainly a nice walk from Parley Hay to Hartington...I must explore the rest at some point...it's supposed to be very pretty at t'other end too, as Sarah confirms. I hope to bump into you sometime as well then Claire

Perhaps a Whippet Meet on the Tissington Trail could be arranged (and honourary whippets too of course).

There were loads of cyclists though, and some didn't seem to slow down either :- so we did have to keep ours on lead.
