GALWAY GIRL

Galway Girl (or GG for short) is a 7 year old greyhound lady who was used for breeding after her racing career was over. She has had a tough life so far, but is in quite good condition now and we are hoping that someone will see the beauty and character in the grey hairs that now grace her muzzle and offer her a loving home.

Galway Girl is a lovely, gentle old dote of a dog who is absolutely no hassle at all. She is in a foster home now for the very first time and is doing very well. Her new love in life is her beanbag dog bed and she would gladly spend the entire day snoozing on it in various positions. In fact she needs some gentle coaxing to leave it for her daily walk!

This lovely girl is also very affectionate and a real character. She knows what she wants and is very content with the simple things in life – a warm bed and some good food and this girl is a very happy hound. Unlike many greyhounds, GG can sit and her fosterer is working on training her to sit on command now.

GG gets on well with other dogs, though prefers to watch the going’s on from the sidelines (preferably while on her beanbag bed!) rather than taking part. She is sharing her home with a couple of younger dogs and though she is coping well with their bounciness, we feel a quieter, calmer household would suit this gentle lady better. She is not cat friendly.

Being an older lady, Galway Girl will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be more than content with two 15-20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

GG is currently in foster care in Co. Kerry, Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Galway Girl, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
