Hi im looking for some advice for Oliver. Oliver has a very sensitive neck and ive tried napa leather collars and silk martingales but everything rubs. He had his neck shaved in September when he had an operation and since then nothing work's. Ive been looking at whippet collars lined with suede or sheepskin but im not sure what to buy.
Any help would be appreciated x

Would walking him on a harness help? Then he could just wear a light collar for his tag, e.g.: Tag Collars Or if you want to walk him on a collar, you could just put it on when walking on lead and take it off when at home or when off lead, just leaving the tag collar on.

@JudyN I'm not sure about a harness as he really slim and i worry he'll wriggle out off it? He doesn't wear a collar in the home only walks, I've seen whippet collars with suede or sheepskin lining but not sure which one to try. I've never met a whippet so sensitive! Thank you for your help .
@Violet Turner Thank you I'll take a look.

Thank you . I actually looked at that thread too! Thats where i got the idea for a sheepskin lined collar, ive ordered a whippet collar with suede lined so hopefully it will help his sore neck. Im not sure about harnesses but that idea sound good.

I would be looking at the typical greyhound/ whippet collars they are made for sensitive necks, don’t thin harnesses will be any good for deep chested dogs

Thank you. He wears the proper whippet collar but everything rubs . I have been looking at ruffwear harnesses then add a clip onto a soft collar.

Have you looked at Perfect Fit harnesses? They are partly fleece-lined, and you can buy the different components separately to get a perfect fit (hence the name!), which might be better for a whippet than an off-the-peg harness. I believe their customer service is good, in that you can send back one bit of the harness to exchange for a longer/shorter bit.

@JudyN no i haven't heard off them I'll take a look. I looked at trendy whippet they have a fleece lined harness and its got good reviews but I'd like mine to clip the lead on at the front. Thank you :)

We use the Perfect Fit - and it has a front ring as well as one on the back. Sass and Indi-dog do made to measure harnesses too.

I saw this company that make collars and harnesses out of fleece

Or I was thinking, maybe a protective shirt under his whippet collar? So it would provide a barrier between the collar and delicate skin. They are in soft fabric and just civer the dogs neck and chest and can be used after surgeries so assume they would be delicate on sensitive skin. And also as he's a whippet, don't think they'd cause an over-heating issue? Especially with the weather in the UK:D

Have you thought about using a catching / slip lead. Delight Pet Supplies, (on Facebook), have some lovely ones and they are fleace lined. It's a lead and collar in one, used normally in catching the dog after a race. they have a device on the lead that you slide up and down, this allows the collar to be as open as you want, (with a Whippet in a muzzle and being determined not to leave the lure that comes in usefull). Then you can make it as tight as you wish, up to a limit of course. If you contact Nicky via facebook she will, I am sure, be able to tell you more about them and show you examples.

Thank you everyone for being so helpful! Much appreciated . I have been looking at the harnesses both ruffwear front clip and perfect fit so im trying to decide :)
@Biker John i never thought about a slip lead for him, im definitely going to take a look at Delight pet supplies kinda pulling my hair out finding something for him, last thing i want is a bald sore whippet .:(

Received Oliver's perfect fit harness today looks good :)
Here's a pic off him looking really miserable lol
And thank you @JudyN for telling me about these or i wouldn't have know.

It might be the photo but that looks quite close to his elbows - on ours we have a couple of finger widths space.
