GIDEON

**UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Gideon would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Key Points: Loves people, confident and social, excellent with greyhounds, walks to heel.

This absolute smasher is Gideon! He is a 4 year old greyhound boy who is very big and very beautiful. Gideon ran an amazing 48 races during his 4 year career, though sadly still found himself unwanted at the end of the day and is now looking for a forever family to love and call his own.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Extremely loving, gentle, affectionate, adores people, very attentive, playful and goofy.

Dear Gideon is completely gorgeous in every way, we cannot sing his praises enough. He is extremely affectionate, friendly, loving and confident with people. He ADORES us humans and really relishes a chance to interact and get loved on. And Gideon definitely doesn’t scrimp on dishing out some lovin’ too! He’s so affectionate, loves giving cuddles and kisses, all the while being exceedingly gentle despite his large size. Gideon is a big tall boy who is very impressive, but even more gentle. He has done nothing but melt hearts on his journey to us in the UK, and we dearly hope people aren’t put off by his tall stature because Gideon has soooooo much enjoyment and love to give.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Not yet in a home environment.

Gideon has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. This big boy has raced enough during his 4 years, and now wants nothing more than a soft sofa beside his human in the evenings.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Excellent with greyhounds, not yet tested with other dogs.

Gideon has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far and hasn’t put a paw wrong. He is very happy and friendly to other hounds and is used to being in their company. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs yet, but this will be carried out soon. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! He is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks to heel, super social with people & greyhounds, travels well.

Gideon walks well on the lead and doesn’t pull. He also travels fantastically in the car. Like most ex-racing greyhounds, Gideon is a complete lazy bones and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Gideon would need some work on recall training before he can be safely let offlead, but this is something easily done by his new parents.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Gideon is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Gideon is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Gideon, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Gideon, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Tam

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
