Anyone see GMTV this morning about puppy trafficking, they were saying about 1000 puppies per week were being brought over from Ireland into Wales and then sold on further afield, via internet or newspaper advertising or by pet shops.

It also showed a puppy farm where there looked to be loads of different litters of puppies, they (RSPCA) went undercover and bought 6 puppies 2 of the puppies had potentially fatal illnesses. One which died :( later and another a mastiff called Frank had parvo virus, but survived. :)

I hope now they are on the case of this they get it stopped, after all it seems to have been going on for years

Hopefully this the link http://www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=30063

A lady at work was talking about that earlier, she said that she couldn't believe it was actually legal!

There is something wrong there.

I don't want to watch it really, I will be upset and wish I could take all the puppies home and stop it happening.

There is meant to be a bit about it coming up on on the ITV news at 1.30

It is horrible to watch, but I suppose if it makes more people aware of the situation it can only be a good thing. It is beyond belief that there are individuals out there that can treat those poor puppy's and their poor mum's so badly. How can they not have a conscience? It amazes me that there are people arrange to pick up puppy's from the back of vans in the first place

There is apparently one of those new 'puppy shops' opening in Leeds soon  I'm assuming they are farmed pups. Lots of different breeds available, thankfully no whippets as yet but loads of other breeds. Being as whippets are now in the top 20 kc list (I think) I'm sure it won't take long before they will being sold too :(

I agree, some of the pups shown were being kept in cages smaller than a decent rabbit hutch :(

So if it is kept in the public eye then more people will become more aware of how these poor mums and pups are kept. Some people are naive as to how and what goes on in this business, so the more people that know the better :)

i saw it

poor little mites :( :(

:( I saw it too. Sadly a lot of people who set out to get a puppy are totally ignorant, just get it into their heads that they want a pup, pick out a breed and buy it from the first person who can supply it, this must be the market these breeders (and I hesitate to call them that  ) aim for. Public awareness has got to be a good thing, after all it is not so very long ago you could see puppies displayed in pet shop windows, thankfully that seems to have stopped but if the general public are more educated then maybe there will not be such a ready market for unscrupulous people.

It was on the BBC news this morning too. I was saddened to hear/see it all but delighted it was making National News headlines instead of some so-called celebrity's body-fat ratio. The advice to new puppy buyers is invaluable and needs to be more widely publicised (ie don't buy from pet-shops).

 But how can we pressurise the powers-that-be to introduce severe legistlation against this?

Word's can't describe my contempt for these 'people'.
