Ave got a friend who has a 7 month Great Dane pup. But she is having massive problems with the rear end of the dog. Her pup has had serve doze of the runs every since she had him. She has tried everything. And has been back and forth to the vets a number of times, and they cant find anything wrong with his internals. The pup before she got it was fed on raw mince. and am i wondering if this has had some sort of effect on him. Has anyone got any experience of this problem? Any advice you could give my friend would be ace

Has your friend discussed this problem with the breeder? Friend of mine used to have a Dane and he was like that from the time they got him - from rescue aged about 4 years - till his death at 11. They had to have him on very strickt diet of boiled chicken and rice. If he ate something else they would come down in the morning to flooded kitchen (he was a big boy, over 40"). Dane with runs is a problem.

They need to find something basic he can tolerate and then slowly ad one thing at time and find what he cannot tolerate, and organise his diet accordingly. If he was fine on the raw diet I would go back to that. :luck: :luck: :luck:

I agree with the above too. It may also be worth trying some of the diets for sensitive tummies........as Seraphina says a Dane with the runs is no joking matter,as you are talking about a seriously large amount of poo!!

Alot of danes have funny tummies.

I can put you in touch with dane owners if you want, so your friend can talk it through with them??

Or if you want me to cross post this to them and see what they say???

I can't comment on Danes in particular, but I have heard people with dogs with dodgy tummies swear by Wafcol Salmon & Potato. Burgess Sensitive is also supposed to be good.

Lots of luck, I hope you manage to find something that suits him :luck:

Cheers guys for your ideas. I will pass them on to my friend and hopefully his runs will calm down (w00t)
