GUSS
Guss is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. He is a lovely big boy with a black tuxedo coat that will be really gorgeous once he has put on some condition.
Guss is a really nice, friendly lad whose tail never stops wagging when he’s around people. He is very affectionate and enjoys any bit of attention given to him. He is sure to really enjoy the family life and is going to be a fantastic companion.
Guss gets on great with the other greyhounds in our kennels, and enjoys a chance to stretch his legs in the paddock. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!
Dear Guss has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
Like most greyhounds, Guss is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE: JANUARY 2011**
Dear Guss has now travelled across to the UK where he continues to wait for his forever home. This lovely lad has worked very hard in this racing life and it shows. Guss sadly looks much older than his 3 years, and his coat is still quite dull. We are hoping to get him placed in a foster home very soon, and this should really help this lovely boy’s condition improve. If you are interested in short-term fostering Guss, please do contact us.
Guss has a beautiful, calm nature and is used to noisy traffic and bustling crowds. He adores people and is always waiting to give back some love. This complete gent is a favourite amongst the kennel staff and we are all hoping and praying he gets his forever home soon.
**UPDATE: MARCH 2011**
The lovely Guss is now in a foster home where he can finally start to experience the comforts and close one-on-one attention of a home environment. Guss is a lovely, quiet boy and is so far accepting the home life very nicely.
We will update with his progress very soon.
Guss is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Guss, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
