Harvel has it's own forum at last and with luck I hope to keep it relatively up-to-date.

I am now Harvel's secretary, and - unless I can foist the job on to someone else - acting race manager too.

At the recent AGM, no one came forward to replace Dave Woollett so the job falls to me by default unless I am not attending a meeting, in which case a stand-in will be chosen from the available and suitable persons who ARE attending. Please feel free to volunteer if I am not there

I will be sending out bulletins soon to all members including the 2005 fixture list, which will also be posted on here. For the record, Joy Fisher remains as Chairman and Jane Bond as Treasurer, everything else is me it seems :D Although I may whinge about it, I am quietly looking forward to being back in the thick of things again. I gave up my race manager's position at EA when my health started to noticably deteriorate, and although healthwise I'm no better, equally I am not a lot worse either. I really can't do much of the physical work anymore, but if members pitch in to help out on race days then we should be able to have as well-run a club as anyone :)

Dave will continue to maintain our track which is the single most important job at Harvel and we are very grateful to him for offering to do this. He won't be around in June, which also happens to be the month of our Open but if we can rally round to cut the grass, everything else should be ok.

On the personal front, I have a puppy almost track ready, and I WILL be getting out and about with him in the coming season. Both he and his mum are bursting with energy and we will be going to Newmarket in the coming weeks to continue Frankie's education and to keep Lisa's weight down!

That's it for my opening post, except to wish you all a happy, sucessful and injury-free 2005

Ian German.

Good luck in your new position Ian :luck: We look forward to coming to your open in June.

Best wishes

Yes, good luck Ian, and well done for stepping in to save Harvel. We look forward to seeing you at your open in June. Best wishes

Is this Harvel in Kent or is there another Harvel in the UK?

Thanks

Harvel in Kent, but they in fact run in Bean

Tell you what ... I have always wondered that myself - I didn't realise that there WAS a place called Harvel :D

We should be called Bean Racing :p

Hello Ian

Just to let you know that I am happy to help out at the Open again if you could confirm the date(s). I am an ex racer from 12 years ago but am happy to help in the Secretaries tent. My name is Lynda Poyroo and Jane and Joy know me.

Let's hope the sun shines. 8)

For background, the club originally had a track at Harvel, near Meopham in Kent hence the name. They also raced at Ebbsfleet (Bluewater) for a while. I used to live at Betsham and found the current ground based at Bean.

Really miss racing but impossible to have dogs now as out at work all day. :(

Lynda

:D Good Luck Ian, and well done , hope things go smooth for you, and how's Frankie

love shazxxx

Sorry Sharon - I was a bit slow in seeing your post.

Frankie is doing great ... he has had some 2 dog trials now - closed doors and everything!

I was meant to be going to Newmarket today but I am struggling with some disease or other, coughing and spluttering around the place and thought it wiser to stay at home in front of my log fire :) I am disappointed to miss a week with him as although he is a quick learner and I need to press home the message!

He will probably get a 3 dog trial at his next go - I'm scared already!

He is 18.5lb still - and built like a razorblade - he squeezes through the picket fence into my neighbour's garden and plays chase me with her Shiatzu puppy :D

I just hope that there isn't too much conflict in the coming season between my obligation to Harvel and the campaigning of Frankie - I won't be pushing him TOO hard but I hope to do some opens with him. Obviously a lot will depend on HIM - if he develops quickly, and I have every indication that he will, then I will have to give him his chances to mix it with the stars :)

Hello

My father and I was members of The Harvel Club when it was actually in Harvel many years ago and wondered where you now meet - Bean is it? I would love to come along to one of the meetings and wonder if anyone still belongs to the club who I would remember?

Regards

Elaine

Well. I have only been a member there for 2 years, Elaine - my roots are with the East Anglia club - but there are some old people go there :- "

(I can be brave when I know that 95% of 'em don't look here!)

I'm sure Joy Fisher won't mind me saying that she is Harvel's oldest member - take that any way you wish! Other long term members would be (off the top of my head) Jean Goode, Linda Turner, June Mattocks, Jane Bond etc. We tend to share a membership with Maidstone with a lot of members belonging to both clubs.

But yes we do race at Bean - why not pop along and see for yourself - there is a fixture list pinned here but our next meeting is on April 3rd.

Look forward to seeing you :)
