just entered my whippy puppy, jessie  in her first champ show, however as its a very long journey and ive entered her in minor puppy and puppy, should i have really left it to just 1 class do you think?

No, it's not wrong to do that, but usually, because of maturity, exhibitors choose either one or the other. If your baby is a very raw looking 6 month old pup, she's going to look very immature in puppy because some of her opponents will be nearly 12 months old.

But don't worry, it's good ringcraft and experience for them. In future, if you want to do a couple of classes, choose maiden or novice instead.

Louise

Agree with Louise on that one, Minor puppy and puppy can be a bit much.

You have babies of jsut 6months competing with babies of nearly 12

she goes to ringcraft twice a week and loves it! she is a very happy girl and last week was so good was chosen to make the numbers up with some naughty adults and the judge was most impressed with her and how grown up she was behaving, in fact she was picked as top dog but couldnt have the prize as she was a baby

thank you both  , ok another question then is it ok to withdraw her on the day ?

Tanya - when Frankie got to 8 months or so last year i put him in MPD and PD at a couple of champ shows. He got placed in the top three in both classes. His brother Marble actually got 2nd in PD and 3rd in MPD at one champ show with big classes. Sometimes you find one of the classes is huge and the other quite small. This happened at the Whippet Club show, there were loads in MPD and only 4 in PD! A pup of 6 month will obviously look a lot more immature than one of nearly 12 though.

I wouldn't worry too much about it! I've made a right cock up and entered the wrong class at a forthcoming champ show (ticked the wrong class number on an online entry) Im now dreading going.

ok thank you , as you know im know im new to this showing lark and after saying id never show :b i have to say im really enjoying learning about it all!!! horses im fine with , dog showing total newbie!!! :)

;) In your second class you will be a seen dog, so the judge will not need to go right over your pup again, but will probably ask you to move again

Do tell. (w00t) . I've done both at our first Champ show with Berry. I dithered about it ( no rude comments needed  ) but have found before that there were 25 in MPB and loads less in PB. Only doing it the once though. Also she likes to "leap" and I thought it would be good experience for her!! :p

I did the same thing when i entered in my very first show; I put my minor puppy also in puppy and junior :b . The reason was that I missread the rules which said you have to show in every class you entered to mean you have to enter every class for which your dog is elligible. So the answer is no you cannot withdraw on the day....unless your rules are different in UK. Anyway i won the best minor puppy of the breed :) which made up for feeling total dill. :))

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Now , don't take this the wrong way , but as you are both new to this showing lark wouldn't you have been better off going to a local open show for your first show

:D

The entries are always cheaper , the atmosphere friendlier and more relaxed . class sizes are smaller too ( usually)

It does seem the trend now a days to go straight to showing at Championship shows , I and many of us `oldies ` learnt our craft at Companion(then exemption) . Limit shows and sanction shows ( these no longer exist)

Taking a minor puppy a long drive is expecting a lot of a baby too . as i said JMO :huggles:

You may withdraw from the second class but if you are unbeaten in the first then you will be classed as a beaten dog by withdrawing from the second. ( you may not withdrawn to stay unbeaten)

be good to meet you! great to put a face to a name! :)

tanya :huggles:

Good luck at your show :luck: I was really nervous at my first champ :sweating: Like Jax said though , i found it best starting off at opens - I did about a year (with my first whip and first part of showing my 2nd whip) before entered a champ show (w00t) really found the atmosphere more relaxed  and time to practise abit more - not so bad making a cock up at a small open! , even though i think i still do- LOL

Anyway, hope it goes well for you,( im not entered at SC myself. )You will forget about people watching when in the ring - When i used to showjump id get really nervous but once int he ring Id forget people watching and just ENJOY :D

We shall follow your progress like we did Montys ,

Where is southern counties held at ? maybe I could take my granddaughter Hannah
