I've posted a message from Midland Whippet Club, regarding a heart testing session being held at our Open show at Roade Village Hall, Northants, on Sunday 28th June 2009. In addition to the original message shown below, I can confirm that Sarah Smith will prepare a statistical analysis of her findings, which she will report to the Breed Council Health Officer, Sarah Pirie, and that testing will cost £200 per dog.
This session is open to all whippet owners, you don't have to be entered in the show to book a place.

Heart Testing at MWC Open Show.
The object of this heart testing session is to address one of the current health matters allegedly affecting our breed. We offer an effective test by a veterinary cardiologist, Sarah Smith, who by virtue of her profession would be a member of the BVA. The two tests available will be stethoscope and doppler.
If further treatment or testing is necessary, this will be a matter between the vet and dog owner on the day. Findings and data collected will be confidential.
The cost of the test reflects the cardiologists expenses and time in attending on a Sunday, use and transport of equipment and a fee for the procedure. Due to time constraints and degree of cooperation of each dog, the costs can only be spread over a maximum of 15 dogs.
The Midland Whippet Club is making no charge whatsoever for arranging these tests.
