Hi,

I have recently adopted a young(ish) rottie, and she still has her dew claws intact. I previously had a rottie from the dogs home who did not have dew claws when we had her. My question then is, do rotties that still have dew claws have any/many problems with them, and if so, what is the best way for us to go forward with this lovely dog?

Thanks.
Jenny

Hi and welcome to you both:). Not sure on the issue with dew claws, but I know a leonberger cross that has double dew claws and he's never had a problem with them...sure someone will be along soon that will be able to be more helpful;)

Front dew claws are attached to the bone so removing them involves surgery. Also, some dogs use them to grip and for traction. For rear dew laws, not attached, removal is easier.
