My 3 year old yorkie is acting up! All this time he had been sleeping in a room by himself. Now he only wants to sleep on my bed. One night he barked for 1 hr. and would not give up. I have scolded him, rewarded him and ignored his loud barking, but nothing has worked. He displays major seperation anxiety which he never had before. He barks at anything that moves in our property. Please help!

Welcome to K9, I haven't realy got any advice on how to deal will this sorry(someone will have though)

I was just thinking has anything happened to him recentley that would make him act this way a bad experience with another dog or human he may be barking out of nervousness because he he frightened of something and sleeping on your bed for security

Also have you had anything new fitted in the house that makes a noise(central heating ect) or brought in anything that is different from what he is used to because he may be frightened of it

Hi just been reading an old copy of the countrymans weekly there is an article about a yapper stopper the phone no is 07733016358 & it says phone anytime might be worth a try hope this helps :luck:

As this change in character seems to be of sudden onset, I would want to check that there was nothing amiss health-wise.

Has he changed in any other way at all? - thinner coat, not so keen on exercise, put on weight, become agressive, fearful etc etc.

These are just some symptoms which could point you in another direction.

Sometimes (and I am not saying this IS his problem) - when a dog becomes hypothyroid - all or some of the symptoms above can be displayed.

I would get the vet to check him over if you are worried - he can always take a blood test if he thinks there is a possibility of low thyroid output.

Hope you can get something sorted out - it may be a process of elimination and you have to start somewhere!! -

Good luck.

I agree if a dog has a radical personality change and you cannot associate any incident that could have triggered this, then I'd consider the Vets. It may be worth keeping a diary of his behaviour to see if anything is apparent. Also you mentioned he's barking at anything that moves in the home and he's suffering from separation anxiety? He does sound like he's had some kind of incident that's left him feeling unsafe in his home, the question is what though?

I know my whippet has had the mother-in-law call in some days to check on her and even though she knows her well, she's insisted on hiding from her when I'm not there! (Belly crawls under the bed!)

Good luck and I hope you have him settled again soon. :luck:

Is he neutered or entire? We've just had a problem with our whippet suddenly starting to act dominantly which is linked to hormone imbalance.
