Hi, I am looking to get a whippet puppy around November time and was looking for some help to find a breeder who may have litters available at that time.

I am looking to race my puppy although loved pet will come first, a little about myself as I know many breeders prefer to sell their puppy's to people who they tend to know or who have been recommended to. I live in Surrey, I have a secure rear garden as well as being close to national trust common areas which is ideal for letting whippets run and be safe away from traffic. I have had exprience of whippets in the past but unfortunatly my whippet had to be put to sleep last year due to kidney failure. I also currently work from home so the puppy would never be left for any great length of time.

I am ideally looking for a dog which is either:

*Fawn*

*Fawn & white*

*Fawn with blue or black mask*

*Blue & white*

I am willing to travel any distance for the right puppy.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post & look forward to any help.

Thanks, James

Hi James

Are you thinking of racing the pup?

It's a bit early to know of any pups yet, as a lot of breeders will wait until after the racing season to either see how puppies from previous litters are doing, or seeing how the chosen sire himself is performing, before making the final choice of sire.

Keep looking in to K9, and ask again nearer the time - there's bound to be some around. There have been lots of pups around this winter, and no doubt there will be more later this year.

Good luck with your search.

As well as doing what June's suggested I think that it's a good idea if you go along to some race meetings that way you can get to meet some of the racers. It helps if someone can put a face to a name when breeders have pups for sale. From a puppy buyer viewpoint it's nice to know the breeder before the pups are born rather than have to establish a relationship afterwards. Helps all round I think.

Oh and welcome to the K9 board.

Thanks for all the advice and ideas1

Regards, James :)

Beejays advice is spot on I think. The more people know you, the more likely you are to get a puppy. Good luck and welcome to K9.

Hi James,

We are fairly new Whippet owners. We chose a show bred dog as our first whip, and have just got into racing. Our beloved Archie is rubbish at racing(he really enjoys it though) . If you fancy getting into racing, do chose a whip which is racing bred. My lump is too big to be able to race proper due to the rules. We do a bit of showing but only local stuff. There is a world of difference between the racing/show bred dogs. You may well save yourself a great deal of trouble by picking the type which suits initially!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good colour choices by the way.......Our whoppet is a gorgeous fawn boy  :p
