Hi all,

Ive always found it quite difficult trimming tails :b ...you are meant to just trim the underside arnt you?

well, i atempted to trim one of mines tails today using thinning scissors to get rid of the main feathering then normal scissors afterwards but i ended up cutting the sides aswell ( hope this is making sense cause its quite difficult to explain!) and lost my judgement somewhat and realised id gone to much round onto the front of tail  so i had no choice but to trim the entire front too.....

so its all cut down really short almost to the skin now!!...

is this really bad?Does anyone trim the top at all? Ive a show next week and im hoping it'll grow back some but im worried the re growth will look 'bog brush' like ?

How do you all manage to trim evenly without going round to the front of tail???

ive left the tufty bit on the tip of the tail on BTW, and you can only notice its all been trimmed if you look close...i.e - if your a judge! (w00t)

As long as it dosnt resemble a lions tail (w00t) you should be ok ,

I dont but some people just run electric clippers under the tail.

you have to be slow, bend the tail up and just trim away underneath.

Some lines have bushy tails, Im very lucky my lot hardly need trimming at all. Not sure what advice to give Im afraid, you will get better at it, you will just have to pretend it didnt happen :- "

I either use a small battery operated trimmer and clipper with the lay of the hair, then it doesn't take it too close, if the tail hasn't been trimmed for quite some time or, if the tail only needs tidying, I use one edge thinners against the lay of the hair. You get a better finish with these rather than ordinary thinners and scissors, and are less likely to have to end up scissoring all round the front of the tail!!!

Practice makes perfect though!!! I was used to preparing Cockers for showing so tail trimming a Whippet was easy-peasy!!!

Thanks guys. :)

Ill just have to try and take it steadier next time and i just hope it doesnt grow back all coarse now!!  :b

I've just done Frankie's with hairdresser clippers (the one's i use on my husband, son, dad and anyone else im doing!! ) It's come out rather well im pleased to say - easier to get even than with scissors. I did the underneath on a grade 1   Obviously didn't go near the top, so no lions tail
