2. do they run a lot of weight of

3. has anyone tried creatine with their whippet to help improve stamina?

4. what is the general recovery like between courses

5. do u think electrolytes should be taken

no more than any other short coated working dog

2. do they run a lot of weight of

yep they tend to loose a few lb's over a good night

3. has anyone tried creatine with their whippet to help improve stamina?

Creatine is added to a few compleat feeds now.

4. what is the general recovery like between courses

very good they are ready to go again very quickly (if fit)

5. do u think electrolytes should be taken

waste of time by the time the dogs body has started to absorb anything from the drink you'd be home.

Depends on the physique and condition of the dog in my opinion. Dogs with bulky muscle can and do suffer from cramping up in both hot and cold conditions. Basically larger muscles are demanding to blood supply, overwhelm this and cramp ensues. Best preventative is to keep muscle in a lean condition, i.e. keeping the dog fit and it's weight under control.

Creatine aids in muscle recovery. Obviously if you help muscles to recover quickly from exertion, you maintain healthy muscle which will benefit any dog undertaking rigerous physical activity. On average, there is 2 grams of creatine found naturally in a pound of beef so I think it's fair to say that those on BARF etc are giving their dogs creatine, albeit unwittingly.

My own opinion on electrolytes is yes you should give them, one reason being is that they help maintain normal levels of acidity within the blood which can be preventative to lactic acidosis (i.e. cramp)

Bear in mind, stamina and coursing are not something I personally work on with my dogs as they are sprint racers and as such different mechanics are going on in both sports which probably explains why Mark's opinion differs from my own.
