my hard drive went into meltdown so i had to replace my main drive the problem is i can not get it to network with wendys laptop i have got all the drivers and cross over cable and the .NET framework but it will not work,any one on here that can help please

My husband says this might be rubbish, but did your old drive (in effect your PC) have a network name (maybe serial number) which Wendy's PC recognised, and would you perhaps have to change something on her machine?

You need to add the MAC address of the computer to the router before you can connect to your network.

Presuming you had it running prior to its demise, I'm guessing you know how to set up your router etc etc.

thats the problem i was not useing a router i had a crossover cable with a direct link to wendys computer we both run windows xp so it was a case of network wizard on both and it worked i have tried the same but no joy

Sorry can't help then. I know sod all about wired connections, but wire free is a better way IMHO.

Routers can be picked up reasonably dirt cheap, and you don't need to "Broadcast" the name so it won't be readily hacked into if you only add the MAC addresses of the computers you want to connect through it to net.

You can still set up your network to 'speak' to each others PC's via file sharing etc as well.

If my IT buddy is about 2moro I'll put forward your prob and see if he can advise.

Hopefully in the meantime someone here will be able to get you connected again.
