Hi all,

I've literally fell over this forum on google, and its brill to see that the ped whippet racing fraternity has embraced the digital era!

I'm looking to get back into contact a few people from back when my mum and dad used to race the whippets, we still have contact with betty down at the lizard.

I'm Ash, Alison and Terry Turner's son for those of you who may remember. and grandson to George and Barbs, from the northern.

Has anybody heard from, or still in fact speaks to, Linda Wren, she was a close friend of the family, and i remember many a trip up to hyde to her's as a nipper.

Pretty sure my mum has lost contact with her, and most likely doesnt have any recent contact details for her anymore.

Any chit chat will be welcomed!

thanks,

Ash

Hi Mark,

Yes they went down, but if i remember right they missed the open. Not sure if they went to the charity events.

I didnt go down for the first time in years last year, the joys of growing up and working!

It was ten years since Billy Mackenzie died last year, partly what has prompted me to see if could get back in touch.

Cheers

Ash

Hi and welcome. Hope you find your old friends, but I am sure you will enjoy K9 anyway

i've moved this to the racing section in the hopes Ash gets a better response from the racers who knew his relatives.

June

Slightly off-topic but .......... is it really 10 years since Billy died? I still have a card he sent me wishing me luck with the whippet magazine I produced. Sad really, but talented people often have issues I guess :(

If you find Linda tell her I said hi :))

Hi Ash, remember your mum and dad, so how old are you now :- " were still racing be going now 26 years  we had RCH Champagne Charlie, so im sure your mum would remember us

So what is your nearest track then :- " It would be nice to see a couple of ol faces again

Best of luck Colin and Tina

Hi Ash, we remember your ma and pa, and of course your grandparents George and Babs - George was great in a game of rounders, and it became a regular pastime when we stayed over in Andover, in the days of Abbotts Ann. Your mum and dad went out of racing soon after we started (nothing we said hopefully! ) I think the last dog we saw them racing was Boss Drum.

There's a really good crowd at the Northern, so go on down one Sunday. Do you have any of your own whippets? So many people have left the sport for one reason or another, and some of the stalwarts have passed away. You'll find completely different faces at the Northern from the last time you were there. They are all friendly, and would welcome you back I'm sure. We moved south almost 8 years ago, to be nearer to the hub of racing, but always enjoy a trip back to the north.

hi Ash, I remember your mum and dad well,as well as your grand-parents. I still have a fabuluos photo on my office wall of my dog Xcel and Terminator doing battle at the Champs at Gloucester, taken by your dad. He really was a dab hand with a camera.

I too remember Billy, such a generous spirited man. Would love to know how Linda is these days as I haven't heared from her in years.

Look forward to you joining the racing crowd this year. It's good for the sport to see new blood especially when it is a 'return to you roots'.

Hi Ash,

We've only been in the sport for the past 5 years, so don't actually know you or your mum and dad. My OH Barry is the race manager at the Northern, there is a lot of new faces but like June says we are a fab bunch and have a really good laugh every Sunday, if you ever want to come over you would be made more than welcome  Are you nearby :D

Hi everybody!

Thanks mark for moving the post, brilliant idea.

it's been like a blast from the past reading this post! and the pm's i've had, didnt realise everybody used this!

Where do i start! Mum and dad live in Hindley Green/Leigh just on the out skirts of wigan. i'm 21 now, and i'm living with a mate in tyldesley, we've got 3 ferrets, 3 hens, 8 hen chicks, and 3 quail chicks, 2 boxers, and my twelve week old lab, which ironically, i have named boss, after boss himself! quite a list when its written down! mum has a border terrier (brilliant little dog) and a sheltie(little softy) now, not had a whippet for years.

i'd love to catch up with some old faces, we see betty every year down at cornwall, but June and linda, to name but a few, are people i have quite a lot of memories of as a nipper!

i'm in my 3rd year of my 4yr uni course in Construction Management, sponsored by Laing O'Rourke. Terrin finished her A levels last may and got 3 A's - tatering me completely, and is doing a foundation year in art at a really good college in winstanley. she had her first uni interview today.

I have two more younger siblings aswell now, after terrin, came Jaeger now 12 shes a brill little swimmer, has much more potential than i ever had! and my younger brother Kiel who was 10 the other day., who loves TV (young lads nowadays) ha ha!

I would love to nip down to the northern, to say hello, you down there every sunday?

and yes it certainly was ten years since billy passed on last year. there are pictures of him with the dogs and all sorts, and we even have some old issues of the whippet news(i think thats right) with him and his dogs in it.

Thanks for the replies all!

Regards

Ash
