Hiya,

Star & Vader are running in the Venture hill sprint on Sunday :) and as this is their first time at racing apart from with the lovely peeps at SCWRC  I'm scrounging for some tips.... :- " :clown: :b

Is there anything we should or should not do the day and the morning of the race. Ie can I exercise them normally (and knowing our luck risk an injury!) the day before - but not exercise her the morning of the sprint? Feed her as normal or do you normally give a bigger feed?

Hope it's a nice sunny day like today on Sunday :D

This is how to do it Rae,,,,,,,

Go out Saturday night and get hammered. Get up late and shove hounds in the car after having a pee.

Arrive at venue prtending you are well prepared and "up for it".

Run around, laughing and joking and pretending you haven't got a hang-over and encourage your dogs to C'monnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn 'av it!!!!!!!!

**** off to the pub for an hair of the dog, go home feeling shagged, don't worry that your dogs are crap compared to every-one elses!

LOL HOW ELSE WERE YOU GOING TO SPEND SUNDAY GIRL?

Hey, we'll have a laugh M8, don't panic, our dogs are lovely and happy and gorgeous. It does'nt matter if they are sh1t, we love 'em any-way

No expert but mine will be walked as normal on the lead, no running, and an extra meal at supper on Saturday night. Tesco's finest blue stripe value mince (for the fat) with a bit (size of your thumbnail) of lard in it. But they'll probaly not eat much on Sunday morning cos we'll be setting off early from Blackpool!

Prefer Joanna's plan best!

LOL at Joanna .......You'll be suprised at how many type's of Whippet will be entered, and you never know if your draw's kind  .......As for Rae's question's ..........

I wouldn't run them that morning, and my 2 will probably have some beef and kidney stew for breakfast (then some cooked, fatty sausage's about 1/2 an hour after their first run so they have something to "run on" in the afternoon  )........Don't forget to bring some water for your dog's as there are no loo's or tap's there.......I put some honey in my lot's water just to keep the energy level's up as well :D ............Hope this help's .........BTW the pub lunch sound's great .......I know of a nearby pub to the field

Well make sure we are all rounded up and pointed in the right direction Hannah!

Excellent thanks - so bring something for them to munch after their race on the small off chance that they get through! (w00t)

Pub idea sounds perfect

Image that - whippet racing then in to the pub....a first for all of us ......... o:)

Ofcourse Jo you are right - we love them regardless of their performance

Your dog gets 2 runs regardless! Or it was the case last year!

How does it work? If your dog wins it's heat, does it go on to a further heat up to final stage?

Last year the dogs were split into groups of 4 depending on age, weight, breed, etc.

after the first run the two winners would run against each other and likewise the 2 second placed dogs (don't like using the term losers cos it's a fun thing! )

2 runs up the hill should be enough for most!

Although I think Forest had 3 last year! :- "

I'm thinking of coming to watch with my two children and Zephyr - is that allowed? It is just a long time to leave him alone at home and OH is working that day.

It sounds like a brilliant and fun event, AND I would get to meet more K9ers and their lovely whippets.

Good luck everyone. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Helen and Family watched last year (and caught my dogs  ) so I don't think it'd be a problem (but as it's nowt to do with me, just my opinion!)

I know that there is a K9 convoy heading down from the NW!

Should be a very good day out again!

Oh, come! I reckon you'd be welcome. We found that Sue and Terry seemed to operate a very "open gate" policy... indeed I had to hunt them down to pay for being there. Zephyr will love it - Josie had a wonderful time mingling with the other dogs, although she did have to be on the lead all the while. Maybe give Sue Ward a quick ring - the number is the Hill Sprint thread!

We're not competing, but Hannah thought there might be some trials at the end if there was time, so maybe Zephyr will get a run in too  I'm hoping Josie can trial :)

There were trials mentioned on the entry, think they are £2 per dog.

LOL we'll all end up drunk in charge of a Whippet by the afternoon.......Then Sue and Terry are hoping to do a "bottle" raffle aswell (w00t) ......

   I am so fed up!!!! Up to yesterday we were a 3 car family - our two estates and an automatic for OH while his left leg was in plaster. That was due to go back on Monday so he took his nice Mondeo estate out for a spin yesterday to check he could drive it OK. I had to run an errand and used my old Citroen which has been unused for 6 weeks or so, and the clutch became stiffer and stiffer until it seized up completely, though fortunately just outside the garage   so they have taken it in and it's going to cost big bucks to fix it. :(

Ah well, I thought, I still have the Mondeo, and OH will have to hire the automatic for a further week. But we left it outside a friend's house while we had dinner last night, and walked home after many glasses of wine   and when I went to collect it this morning - some lovely person   had ripped the driver's wing mirror off. The new one has been ordered but will come on Monday.

Although it is driveable I don't want to risk all that motorway driving without a wing mirror so we won't be coming to the Hill Sprint tomorrow, and we were all SO excited!! :(

Next year perhaps, HAVE FUN EVERYONE! :luck:
