Hi all

At last a greyhound section on K9, waited years for this. Been a member for some time but this is my first post. I have 5 greys which race (only at flappers at the moment). I have another 2 greys which are both retired through injury. Hoping a get a trainers licence for the new track that is opening in Edinburgh some time this year. It seems to be quite hard to get a licence these days what with all the rules and regulations that have to be followed. Also 2 of my dogs wont kennel and are kept in the house but they wont be racing under rule as they wont kennel at race tracks either. Sorry cant post any pics of dogs as i use my pc at work and are not allowed to download anything. Some detailes of dogs:

Coast - 4 1/2 yr black dog (semi retired, still loves a run round)

Isla - 3 1/2 yr brindle bitch (retired)

BoBo - 2 1/2 yr dark brindle bitch (retired)

Budgie 1 1/2 yr brindle dog (BoBos litter brother)

Inky 2 1/2 yr fawn bitch

Wisp 2 yr white/parti brindle bitch

Not forgetting Jerry 3 yr brindle dog (totally bonkers lives in house with half sister Isla).

Inky and wisp live in house at moment while extension being put on kennels and inkys is a very nervous dog. (only had 2 months now). Hope to get them outside soon as I feel Inky would come on better if she had her own space with Wisp. Never leaves Wisps side, always in her shadow. Looked after inkys litter brother last year for a friend for 8 weeks while he was ill and he was as nervous as she was. Must be in the breeding. He is now completely nutters. The owner still thinks i gave him back the wrong dog. Hoping to grade inky and wisp in a Gretna soon so I might meet the stardust greys. My others are all graded in there but dont like the journey during the winter so tend to just use Armadale during the winter months. Gretna is quite a hard track to grade in at as the bend is so tight, and wisp is a very wide runner. She will probably come home via the bar. This is what she does at Armadale. Could be that she has a drink problem, must look out for that. She got beat by a very short nose a fews weeks ago at Armadale due to fact she ran so wide. It was a handicap £500 open as well, she ran well for a pup and I know there is still alot of improvement in her.

Its great to learn about everyone elses dogs and I enjoy reading about their progress. Will post more when I have some spare time at work.

Hi Bangor and welcome to the greyhound section, wish we could do the greyhounds like they do in Ireland, lot less fuss, just turn up run your dog then go home.

Welcome to K9 Bangor

Welcome to K9 Bangor.

It would be great if you could keep us updated on your quest to become a licenced trainer, yes, it is bloody hard work getting a licence these days!!

We will have to find a way to get pics of these dawgy's :- "

Not putting my application in until I know for certain the track in Edinburgh will be opening as there is alot of rumours about money running out. Dont want to pay for a kennel inspection until I have somewhere to attach. Dont fancy Shawfield much and would prefer to support new track due to policies regarding welfare of greyhounds after racing careers are over. Think kennel has been built to specifications required but you never know. You can be picked up on the slightest little details such as fire proof paint and you need proof of this. I think I have got over this one by lining walls and ceiling with laminate flooring and anti-slip ceramic tiles on floor. Dont want to send any dogs to licence trainer as i would miss them too much and where is the satisfaction in that. Been and checked out a couple of kennels locally and was very pleased with what I saw at one of them, but its over a hour drive for my house and I couldn't see them everyday as trainer has a programme to adhere to. So home will do them for the time being.
