Trying to book a holiday at the end of the month - first since we've had our dogs - and staggered by the cost of having our two looked after. I had no idea how much a dog sitter costs. I dont know if we will be able to go away. I dont really like the idea of putting them in kennels but even that for 2 dogs for 2 weeks is incredibly expensive.

What does everyone else do? Does anyone know a reliable place to look after two wippies around London that does not break the bank?

We take Poppy with us!

Just spent a weekend in the beautiful wiltshire countryside, in a posh hotel where dogs are allowed! Also going to Somerset for a week at the end of the month, caravanning it, again dog friendly.

We are also lucky, we have had a weekend away without Poppy since we got her and family looked after her. Everyone loves her so we have had offers of places to stay if we go away.

Sorry that wasn't more helpful, good luck xx

We rent cottages and they come with us! I couldn't bear to leave them behind!

Likewise, we rent cottages and take them with us, I hate being without them. I know of people who have taken theirs on boating holidays and to hotels too.

Mine have been in kennels on a few occasions but Tiny lose 25% of his body weight in 4 days and took months to recover - nothing bad about the kennels, it just doesn't suit him. And obviously as Max's leg is still techincally broken he is not allowed in kennels at presents (not that I would put him in kennels as he is at the mo obviously.)

My hubby and I were due to go to a health spa next week but my mum is now going with me instead because of Max's leg, and the fact that the vet reckoned that if Tiny was to go into kennels again - given his past weight loss in kennels and the fact that he suffered a nervous breakdown after Max broke his leg (because e had to go for walks on his own), plus all his other medical conditions - that he would probably die.

We are going off to Norfolk in May to a nice cotage near Happisburgh that we booked with Welcome Cottages.

Has links to home sitters and dog boarding in peoples own homes. Our local dog trainer does doggy boarding in her own home. NO KENNELS!!! The dogs have the run of her house. Lots of long walks and other dogs to play with! There are lots of people that do this in my area for about £18-£20 a day/night, and I think they offer discount for more than one dog!

You might find a pet/housesitter or someone who boards dogs in their home if you look at the National Association of Registered Petsitters (NARP) website.

My niece looks after dogs in her home. The dogs live in the house as part of the family. They have a great time (so much better than boarding kennels).
