We have 7 whippets and take them on holiday with us several times during the summer months.

We own a Touring Caravan and joined the Caravan Club, their sites accept dogs - no problems. We put up an awning and the collapsible cages and the dogs are very happy. So far this year we have been to Leicestershire, twice to Devon and the latest trip to Warren Farm, Brean, Somerset. Next week we are off to Gloucestershire.

We are happy with this and so too are our whippets. They enjoy all those new walks etc.

Recommendation from another K9er who sent me the following PM:

There is a paperback book called "Dogs Welcome" which gives all sorts of good places to stay. If you feel like pushing the boat out a bit, we found a lovely farmhouse/hotel in Devon and stayed there recently. It is called Sampsons Farm and is near Newton Abbott. They welcome dogs and the farmhouse (which is several hundred years old, thatched and historic) is in a tiny, quiet hamlet. Just across the lane from the farm there are long walks along the river Teign. The Hotel has a website. Pushing the boat out even further, The Hoste Arms at Burnham Market rather intriginguely "is not suitable for badly behaved children but suitable for well behaved dogs" - how refreshing !. Burnham Market in North Norfolk is near to wonderful beaches and great countryside.

Both places have websites. In the winter months they do "deals" - particularly if you go mid-week.

Can also recommend

www. wildernesscottages.co.uk (Hazelgrove Cottage)

Thank you, Claire - I was just thinking about Scotland, so I'll try that link!

Can't recommend littledumpledale enough. Its a very friendly dog holiday place. Lovely accomodation and the bonus of a hot-tub too. We had a fantastic time with our kids and friends last year.

Sue

Also there is no limit or extra cost for the number of dogs. We took our 4 greyhounds and our friends were staying in the cottage with 8 dogs between them

Some good info above and we will be checking it out, just wondered if anybody could personally recommend somewhere similar to the above (littledumpledale) but very close to the coast and beach. Whippets and beach.....you understand!!

Little Dumpledale is fairly near beaches, someone posted pics on dogpages of their dogs running on the beach whilst staying there.

Hazelgrove Cottage (Wilderness Cottages) is on the shores of Loch Ness - we are staying there in May.

Cheers Claire will delve a little deeper this time

bumping this up for someone who was enquiring

Thought I'd bump this up, seeing as it's the time of year for hols

Has anyone got any new recommendations?

We're hoping to go to Ireland in the summer, does anyone know of any small, quiet, dog-friendly caravan sites? Preferably in the Republic of Ireland (as opposed to Northern Ireland) - only cos this year we're going to the south (we stayed in Belfast last year - not caravanning tho - and it is beautiful up in the north there).

Thanks, Gill

Hi All,

We have jkust returned from a holiday which was booked with Blue Chip Vacations (www.bluechipvacations.com) .. they have a number of places where Pets can go free... I guess the policy differs from place to place but we have just stayed at Honicombe Manor near Tavistock and had no probs with the dogs.. also ideally situated on the Cornwall / Devon border with easy access to lots of Dog friendly beaches + dartmoor (and loads of dog friendly pubs too!!!!!)

yewtree-farm.co.uk in Coniston

where Beatrix Potter used to live, where Miss Potter was filmed.

Working farm with 400 cattle and Lerdwick sheep, lovely couple own and run it, the original farmhouse has 3 x double bedrooms with en suite facilities, recently refurbished to a very high standard, best bed I've ever slept in, BEAUTIFUL food and breakfast.

'Well behaved dogs as welcome as their well behaved owners'

look at their website, you won't be disappointed, I'm definitely going back again.

A little bit of peaceful heaven.
